I wasn't surprised when I saw that Cat Among the Pigeons is the one she wrote right after this one. Idk what was going on for Agatha in 1958-59 but she was not producing at her best....
Well, what can I say about this one? The tension was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Imagine being part of a family who, deep down, don’t really know that much about each other. Five adult children adopted into the family at various ages in their young lives during the time of war, for some reason or other, don’t bond as a family. All but one feel as if their adoptive mother is just too much—essentially a too-doting helicopter mother figure. All but one have at one time or another wished for her death. And when she is found murdered, it’s easy enough for the family to accept that it was the delinquent, bad-tempered, “troubled-child” of the family, who is sentenced to life in prison. And then two years later, his alibi actually comes through to prove his innocence. But if Jacko didn’t do it, then who did? The only people in the house at the time of the murder were members of the family. And now they’re all suspicious of each other, knowing that one of them did it, but which one?
As per usual with Christie’s books, she dropped clues along the way that, in retrospect, point to the killer, but I didn’t see it at the time. And of course I suspected everyone at one time or another. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, but overall I was happy enough with it.

More of what I'd call a psychological mystery, this stand alone by Christie was great fun! Yeah, there were clues that I totally missed, and no I didn't figure it out on my own, but I still really enjoyed this mystery. The plot is well structured, characters fleshed out to a satisfying degree, and there's a bit of romance thrown in too. Don't miss this one!

Lantas siapakah pelaku sebenarnya?

This isn’t the best Christie mystery, but the real disappointment is the constant, crucial-to-the-plot assurances from all characters that adopted kids aren’t really a family and their blood is somewhat suspect (especially the non-white parent!). I tend to be forgiving of characters displaying attitudes that were common at the time but this was the basis of the novel’s psychology and cringeworthy. She’s got much better novels to choose from.
