Another good mystery!! Perhaps not my favorite novel of Chrisitie's but it was a good one. As usual, I suspected every single character at one point or another. Hard to put down!!!!!

This is one of Christie’s better stand alone novels. There’s no professional or amateur sleuth in this - just a bunch of people who are muddling through an awful circumstance and trying to figure out how they feel about each other in the aftermath. I enjoyed this mystery more than I can say. I had seen the tv movie years ago (I believe it was adapted for Marple) but it does not compare to Christie’s writing.

The mystery itself keeps you guessing. I had no idea who might have done it until right before it was revealed. Thoroughly great work by the queen of whodunnits.

I purposely haven't read all of the Agatha Christie books because sometimes I just need to pick up a book I've never read that I know I'll enjoy.

This was a pretty good murder mystery from the master of this genre. The depth to which Agatha Christie went to to tell people a really really good story is still exceptional.

The main characters in this book is a family of adopted children and their father. Suffering from the loss of the adopted mother years ago supposedly at the hands of one of the children. He is found guilty of the crime and dies in prison, years on however a man comes to meet the family to let them know that the convicted murderer is innocent. The story goes into each of the characters means and motive before unraveling who the true murderer actually is.

There are few secondary characters with their being so many main characters.

The storyline is gripping and excellently told as a good old fashioned 'who dunnit?' The pacing is excellent keeping readers guessing all the way through until the very last minute and the big reveal.

This is a stand-alone, and I can't say that I loved it. It's a little bleak, and the ending was not terribly satisfying, but it's still better than 90% of what I've read lately in the thriller/mystery category.

Update, 2023
Wow, I just listened to the audio of this, (have never finished watching the TV version) and although I did sort of figure out whodunit I didn't actually know because I had no idea I'd read it already. Did I completely forget about this in only four years? Talk about dead brain cells...)

Note: The 2018 TV version has the same characters and setup, but alters some of the characterizations and completely changes whodunnit. So if you've watched it you can still be surprised by the book, and vice versa.

this was like 100 pages longer than it needed to be :/
