This was such a swoony fun loving, emotional romance that shows what family really means & I adored every bit of it.
Christian is such a fun loving sweetheart who is also an absolute hot mess. He’s so sweet though, so he’s easy to love.
Emile is swoony and kind, he’s absolutely stunning and has a heart of gold.
Their chemistry is absolutely off the charts & I absolutely loved their banter & passion.

This was such a cute little story!

A quick read, it follows Christian, a 27-year-old man struggling to make ends meet as a local stage actor. After coming out as gay ten years before, his rich parents kicked him out and haven't spoken with him since. However, he has been invited to his cousin's wedding and wants to impress his family, and after a chance meeting outside the wedding, he ends up with Emile, who is extremely wealthy, the heir of a well-known British "old money" family.

Emile needs to marry to get his inheritance from his recently deceased grandfather but wants nothing to do with the man his parents have chosen for him -- or anyone else for that matter. Christian and Emile agree to help each other out, and in the process become very close. In the process, they find that each of their horrible families is far worse than expected and must not only come to terms with it but also fight to keep the "hoax" afloat -- while also acknowledging that neither of them truly wants it to be a hoax anymore.

I think one of the greatest things about this book, is the main side characters, such as Christian's roommates (and "aunt") and Emile's sister. All of them have very distinct, vibrant personalities and really make the story. I absolutely adore Christian's awkward clumsiness (I got REALLY embarrassed for him a couple of times), Emile's adoration for all of that clumsiness, and the way he effortlessly helps Christian get past his embarrassment and self-doubts.

Last but not least, the humor was on point. I cracked up quite a bit reading this story, especially during conversations between Emile and his sister.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ – Sweet, spicy, and laugh-out-loud adorable

Fake dating? Check. Marriage of convenience? Check. Second-hand embarrassment that nearly killed me? Also check.

The Husband Hoax by Saxon James is one of the most unexpectedly delightful MM romances I’ve read this year. I was kicking, screaming, and cackling from the very beginning and I don’t say that lightly. This book had me full-on laughing out loud at the chaos Christian gets himself into, swooning over Émile’s surprising softness, and aching over the emotional undercurrent woven into their connection.

This was a 4.5-star read for me, with high potential to earn a full 5 stars by the end of the year. It was that charming.

Christian is a loveable mess, and the fact that Émile sees right through his flailing and still chooses him? Be still my heart. Their chemistry is equal parts sweet, awkward, and sexy, and the fake marriage setup is handled with just the right balance of romcom fluff and emotional realism. And that quote?

“A laugh bubbles in my chest at his flailing and the fact that he was right. He’s a walking disaster. I think I’m in love.”

Yep. I felt that in my soul.

What really impressed me was how Saxon James infused so much heart into what could’ve been just another fun tropey romance. Both Christian and Émile come from toxic families that have deeply shaped who they are, and seeing them start to find safety and joy in each other, and in Christian’s hilariously chaotic found family of roommates, was such a beautiful journey.

Also, those roommates? ICONIC. I’m already mentally preordering their books.

If you love MM romance with fake dating, found family, chaotic disasters, and emotionally tender moments that sneak up on you, The Husband Hoax is one you don’t want to miss. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, unexpectedly heartfelt, and just the kind of feel-good book you’ll want to hug when you’re done.
