Did I enjoy it? For sure. It was an inoffensive and entertaining way to pass a few hours. However, I could definitely tell that it began as Sherlock fanfiction (an admission the author herself makes at the end of the book). The plot was loose and scattered, and the characters leaned too heavily on assuming familiarity with the Sherlock Holmes opus and therefore felt shallow and under-developed. If you are in the mood for extended fanfic, go for it. If you want something more fleshed out and cohesive, I'd look elsewhere.

I love the Chronicles of Osreth, but this one just didn’t click for me. It’s more of a rigid procedural in the style of Sherlock Holmes.

This was a fun read that kept me engaged and the world building was pretty interesting. I'm not super familiar with the Sherlock Holmes stories, so I can't say how faithful this was to those or not, but the introduction of the supernatural was obviously a new addition. I just really like Katherine Addison's writing style.

This is a fun slice-of-life story inspired by Sherlock Holmes, but in supernatural world. I had a wonderful time hanging out with Dr. Doyle and learning more about him in this story.
I love a story that surproses me with LGBTQIA+

This is a fun reimagining of Sherlock Holmes with a supernatural twist. I wish that the supernatural elements were more developed. There were interesting concepts introduced that were never really fleshed out due to the author focusing on the Sherlock Holmes retelling.

I mean, I guess it was good? But, it’s also just the original plots.

4.5 stars. A delightful Sherlock Holmes-adjacent novel (that apparently began as Sherlock Holmes fanfic) that blends Holmesian mysteries into a Jack the Ripper era England populated by hellhounds, angels, vampires, and werewolves. Dr. Doyle is a particularly welcome character, and the narration is top notch. I haven't read a ton a Holmes mysteries personally, but I suspect that fans of Holmes will either love it or hate it.

I read the first three chapters and by then it was obvious this was just a BBC's Sherlock fanfiction. I'm a huge fan of fanfic but I was here to read an original story (or an original take on the Sherlock Holmes story, at least) - to be honest I'm surprised this could legally get published, but then I'm no expert in copyright law.

I also saw some other reviews that mentioned that the LGBTIQA+ representation in this book was disappointing/problematic, and just knowing that was enough to put me off continuing.

This novel provide  a unique twist on a familiar set of stories/characters. I took the reccomendation from a forum and it wasn't detailed enough for me to realize that it was a retelling style of story which I wasn't looking for. It also contained themes I wasn't looking for but I did enjoy the supernatural/paranormal element and the remagining of the characters to a point. I think it would be a 5 star read for someone who was looking more intentionally for the themes, and I likely wouldn't have picked it up if I'd done more research but I did enjoy it a decent amount.
