Originally I thought this would be ghost stories BY Dahl, but after reading his charming introduction, realized it was a collection he handpicked after reading over three hundred of them. He truly found the best ghost stories I have ever read. They were all interesting, well written, surprisingly modern, and particularly spooky tales. As he mentions, some of the best are written by women! I highly recommend this one if you love a good ghost story or have yet to find one that made an impression. Dahl does not disappoint.

very ghostly. was feeling very gothic when i picked this up. rosemary timperley’s stories stood out to me in particular so i’m gonna look at a couple more stories by these authors.
Pretty decent collection with a bias toward older stories. Last 3 were excellent
A nice, creepy set of short stories selected by Dahl, though I'm sorry he didn't decide to write a volume himself, as virtually everything he has published that he's written himself knocks all the competition out of the ball park, as far as I'm concerned.
But I thank him for his good taste in saving me the trouble when I"m feeling like a ghost story and supplying me with his well chosen favourites.
I liked the Alfred Hitchcock ghost stories collection when I was a kid, too, but ghost stories hold less power for adults, alas!

I really enjoy Roald Dahl’s own short horror stories, but this is an anthology of, assumedly, ones he liked himself. And, frankly, they’re really, really boring. Half the stories’ resolutions are “they were dead the whole time — ooooooooo.” Very old-fashioned horror without the complexity I’m used to, had to give it up.

This was a unique find at my library when looking for sone other books and it was the perfect time of year for ghost stories.
This collection of short ghost stories collected by Roald Dahl has ghost stories collected in 1958 from all sorts of different authors. It was nice to have so many different stories in one book. That being said, I don’t know that I can definitely agree that these are the best ghost stories I’ve ever read.
