Wowww this was great. The writing really is just amazing. The fight scenes are so well described, the setting is so spooky and dark, the characters distinct personalities and back stories, the depth of the magic system was complex but explained so well that it was easy to understand. The plot was fast and I was so invested in these characters. I loved this story. The first 30 % I wasn’t sure and then all the sudden I was just like all in and kept thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it. I listened to a lot of this on audio also and the narration was so great. Different accents and voices for the characters. This was a great book

I was SO hesitant to dive into the Sanderson universe, especially with a book that’s a bit of on a coming of age story, but holy hell this was such a good book.

So slow and boring. It has potential to get better but I just don’t think it’s for me.

4.5 stars. The book surpassed almost all the expectations I had for it. The world building felt fresh and unique and refreshingly stepped away from lord of the rings-esque fantasy. It was intricate and well thought out.

The plot seemed a little cliche at first, but with such an intricate world, we quickly find out there is more than what’s shown to us on the surface.

My only very serious gripe is that the romance is written very poorly. The protagonist seemingly falls in love after 1 encounter where they exchange 2 lines of dialogue. This love is so strong that it causes her to change her core principles. It didn’t seem natural at all and every exchange felt forced. Would’ve been able to look past this if it wasn’t a major catalyst for the plot.
