such a grim worldbuilding scenario. very gripping storytelling tho. Not sure if I prefer this or the stormlight archives yet

First time I tried to read this book I dnf’d it.

My book club picked this book for January.

I tried to pick it up again but ultimately I had to go audio because if I heard burn or flare metal one more time I was going to loose my mind. Toward the end it got interesting finally and the ending was okay.

When the fighting and stuff picked up I was hooked, I am interested enough to give the second book a listen to all these people that say how great it is.

But we will see

The stakes in this book felt real, the enemy the characters face feels very strong. There is so much a book club could talk about, character dynamics, religion and politics parallels, foreshadowing, etc.. The world setting is interesting and the characters are layered and not too predictable. Really great writing. I’m scared to read the second one because i want it to be just as good!
