Most wives and mothers work a full time job only to come home to work another one. Imagine a life where you gained income from all of the tedious wife tasks that you handle on the daily! This is where I was hooked. It felt like I was living a fairytale through the words. These 3 friends come together to create an app as revenge to their ex-husbands for all of the the tasks they’ve done as wives. They each have their own storylines which are layered and complicated in their own ways….and a little messy. The author touches on contemporary topics such as mental health in children, co-parenting, & LGBT relationships. I do not recall any TW. This was a light read. Very enjoyable and relatable.

A fun, fast, compelling read for modern moms. I won this in a GoodReads giveaway and I couldn’t put it down. My 3 YO kept slipping my bookmark back into it. 🤣

I really enjoyed the storylines for Lauren and Sophie. Very compelling and relatable for a lot of women. Not enough money, not enough time, awful ex-husbands. Madeline was harder to relate to but ‘wealthy enough to not work’ often is.

I spent a good chunk of time being frustrated with Madeline. Talk. To. Your. Fucking. Kid. I grew tired of wanting to shout this at the character. She was so scared of losing her daughter, she let her be an entitled brat. Good character, and the writing made it make sense, but frustrating nonetheless.

I like the relationship Sophie found but it took too long to happen. If you want me to buy it, sell it to me. Start developing it sooner and in smaller ways. Overall though, enjoyable and well done women’s fiction.

Lauren has signed her divorce papers when she meets up with her girlfriends to celebrate. The night ends with the three complaining about how much is expected of a wife while being taken for granted. A quick throwaway comment about creating a wife app quickly turns into a real idea. Madeline is having issues with her daughter, so throwing herself into the business is perfect, and Sophie really needs the money. It’s a win for all three of them, and for the many wives that are tired of carrying the entire mental load.

This book was totally different than I expected it to be going in, but I really loved it! Our three single moms are all tired of doing everything for their ex husbands and their kids, and I loved the idea for the app from the get go. I wasn’t sure they would be able to pull it together, but I so enjoyed following the journey as they built the app and tried to get it off the ground. I could certainly use a “wife for hire” sometimes to take some stuff off my plate, and I don’t even have a husband or kids! I found this to be a really wonderful read about women taking their lives into their own hands.

I want to start by saying thank you for the ARC! I've been really enjoy dipping my toes into older fiction. With the exception of mysteries/thrillers where the ages of the main characters don't matter so much, I've usually stuck to YA (where the characters are in high school), or fiction where the characters tend to be in their 20s. This story follows 3 women who are in their late 30s or early 40s. After Laura finds out her husband is cheating on her by paying for blowjobs from a prostitute, she decides to end her marriage. She was the one who was supposed to have a healthy marriage, but there she was joining the divorced club with her other two friends.
While drunk during dinner, they jokingly come up with the idea to start a Wife App. A place where you can charge to fill out school applications, plan trips, make sure the house is clean, and anything a wife might do. What had started off as a joke, becomes a brilliant idea Lauren thinks go make an actual app. And she does. What she doesn't expect is for it to become the fastest growing app in New York City.
The story follows the journey of the 3 women throughout their lives during the first few years of the app's creation. I always say this, but it's so difficult to write a book from multiple perspectives, because you're usually more interested in some perspectives than others. In this case, I was genuinely interested in all of their individual stories. The writing is really good. I enjoy the storytelling, and think the characters were all really well developed. My favorite character throughout this story was Madeline, and I couldn't get enough of her chapters. Overall, I rate this book 4 stars, and highly recommend checking this book out when it comes out in June!
