This author’s writing style is unique in that I found it hard to follow at times, I didn’t always grasp who the narrator was talking about; whether it was Amos or Emerson. I did a reread because I needed to understand how the book was written and I thought the point of the book was worth grasping. A 35-year friendship, family in the sense that they’ve always been close and always been there for each other. Ultimately I felt that the reaction of the adults was worth the read. The initial reactions of: I know he did it …. There is no way he did it … She’s lying …. Why would she lie? Then once the reality and repercussions of each initial reaction sinks in: How is this going to impact our lives? What do we do now? How do we move forward? But? What if?  For me the book was thought provoking and emotional. I liked it.

Really difficult and unsettling read. I really enjoyed the way it was written and the characters (even tho they were unlikable) were very developed

The ending gave me fucking whippooplashhhh and left me so disappointed by Amos. You’re praying the whole book that Anna gets the justice she deserves and you think Amos is going to be the one to stand up for her and then what, he does nothing knowing how much pain she’s in??????

It’s just really hard to read these kinds of books where women are disbelieved and overlooked and erased and nothing happens to the people who commit these kinds of crimes. I literally got to the chapter where she tells her dad and I cried so hard I had to set the book down for like a week before I could finish it

And I really thought this was going to be about Amos and Emerson being gay for eachother
