Very cute. But not in a childish way. I enjoyed it

This book is sort of a side-grade to A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking: It's tone is lighter and the overall book perhaps cuter, but the stakes are clearly much lower. The latter part is what made some aspects of the final few chapters of A Wizard's Guide fairly dark, and the lack of this tension and occasional bleakness makes Illuminations feel much more light-weight in comparison.

The general feeling of this book is still very much similar to A Wizard's Guide, and that's very much a good thing.
