Loved everything about this story…. Other than, maybe, that it ended so soon. But it ended where/when it should have, so my complaints are just really whining.
I love T. Kingfisher, but this book just doesn't hit.
As always, the world building is fascinating, but each part of the book/scene overstays its welcome a bit too long. A bit of a slog to read.

Fun premise. The story did kind of drag a bit for me at the beginning and then roared to an adventurous end
A cute book but admittedly not my favorite T. Kingfisher book. A large part of that was that for over 50% of the book, the problem went unsolved because the characters didn't talk to each other. Totally off base that a child might hide things from their parents? No. Do I enjoy the trope of "if the characters would talk, this book would be half as thick?" Also, no, and that definitely won't out in my rating.
Didn't love this one. I loved the concept and the basics of the plot but I felt that the magic kept adjusting to suit the plot rather than following the logic of the universe. I loved the aunt and grandmother characters. Maybe it's just a little too grade school and I'm too old ;)

Not bad, just not what I expect when reading a Kingfisher book. It dragged a lot and most of the book would have not been a thing if the character of Rosa had just told her family what was going on. I was intrigued by the idea of illuminations (art that protects or does something), but after that part, the book as a whole did not hold my interest.
very sweet! a eclectic bunch of a family has an adventure together, with art and magic tangled together.
