t kingfisher never fails to delight me. this whole family felt so raw and real and the town (and world) felt so lived-in and the magic system was ARTFUL (hehe). there was a scene towards the end (you'll know it when you read it) that truly made me cry and really highlighted what makes kingfisher's character work so compelling.
