This was the most imaginative, fun story! The magical system was so cool, and the characters were entertaining yet still grounded in some realistic relationship dynamics. Seeing a family come together was also so heartwarming. Every time I pick up one of T Kingfisher’s books, I’m just reminded how much I love her writing, and this is no exception! I’m terrified of everything but it even makes me want to read some of her horror stories… 🫂👤👯♀️☀️

What can I say? I'm a T. Kingfisher fan girl and this didn't disappoint. A bit reminiscent of "Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking" as it was written as an alternative to that book, the character is again a young girl with limited but specific and save the day kind of magic. "Illuminations" also explores friendship, professional jealousy, family, coming of age, and evil mandrakes.
