This is a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, but told as though Lizzy accepted Mr. Darcy's first proposal, and how things might have played out with that change. This is one of my favorite Pride and Prejudice retellings now!

Jag är så glad just nu.
I adore this book.
I also devoured it in about 24 hours - stayed up late AND got up early to read. Yep, it's one of those books. Be prepared to feel glued to this story from the time you pick it up until it's finished.
This fits in my "fluffy fiction" category, and to be completely honest, it's actually just Pride and Prejudice fanfiction. So you do have to be familiar with the original Pride and Prejudice, or this book won't make any sense.
"Unequal Affections" picks up after Mr. Darcy's first proposal in P&P, only here Elizabeth accepts that first proposal. That's the whole premise of this book, and I loved it. It was like getting to rediscover P&P all over again - the same characters and happy ending, but a completely different route to get to that ending.
I thought the author did a good job of keeping the characters "in character." Their personalities, temperaments, morals, etc all seemed well in line with how Jane Austen portrayed them. However, the writing is more modern, and there's definitely more romance openly displayed (within reason - kissing is as steamy as it gets.)
I enjoyed and definitely recommend this one for Pride and Prejudice junkies!

Great retelling!! The epilogue was weird, but the rest was great. It follows the premise of unequal affections, you need to have read the original to appreciate the differences in the story.

Five stars. This is my third read/listen and I liked it even better this time. If I wasn’t afraid of being bullied online I might say that Ormiston has actually improved on the second half of Pride and Prejudice. The way Darcy is truly humbled in this version, and the way he rises to the occasion and gets over his own ego to reach a truly reciprocal love with Elizabeth, is deeply satisfying. The Wickham character makes Darcy face his demons, and when Darcy realizes that he put Elizabeth in an impossible situation by proposing the way he did, and that he actually needs her to love him back before the wedding, now he’s working against a ticking clock. Along the way the couple unpack *all* of the issues that are implied but not fully dealt with in the original. Both of them keep trying to accept their imperfect relationship and make the best of it without fully facing their issues, but circumstances and their own honest natures won’t allow it. The author brings a lot of emotional intelligence and wit to their struggles, and everyogets the ending they deserve. I will be rereading this one for a long time.
