Unexpextedly, this book, despite being based almost entirely on dialogues and inner monologues, was quite involving. It's basically an anatomy of a feeling. Nothing much happens (that hasn't happened already in "Pride and Prejudice", which you must read before going for this one). It's mostly two people working out their relationship in a calm, grown-up, unpretentious manner. Maybe a bit lengthy towards the end (Darcy overhearing Lydia felt a bit too much, that particular tension could have been resolved earlier). Also, the audiobook narrator was excruciatingly slow - I listened at ×1.15 speed.

While I love Pride and Prejudice I found parts of this adaptation retelling lacking. There were definitely moments that I loved but overall there were moments in the book where I disagreed with the author's take on certain events. But it was a very sweet retelling and if you're a fan of Pride and Prejudice I don't think you will dislike this book. So even though I don't completely agree with choices that were made I can't say that I regret this book.

For fanfiction, this is a pretty good book. I couldn’t get over my disappointment, however, that this long book only covered a period of 7 weeks. The original Pride and Prejudice covers a year and is shorter. I was disappointed that Elizabeth never even goes to Pemberley in this book. While it was an addicting read, it was also quite repetitive. Darcy and Elizabeth have different personalities and are always biting their lips. Is it just me or is this a phenomenon that exists only in books and not in real life?!

I was impressed by how true to the original characters this read felt to me. I really enjoyed getting to spend more time in this world, but sometimes it felt a little slow.
I started reading this book in anticipation of Bridgerton season two being released and wanting to scratch that itch for a historical love story.
I enjoyed the story of what might have happened, had Elizabeth accepted Darcy's first proposal. There were parts that made me laugh out loud as a fan of Austen's work and I appreciated the homages to the original text while still making the story new and interesting.
Maybe it's just my modern sensibilities but I would have liked to see some of the characters given more depth and sensitivity. Lydia especially. (If you want the best portrayal of Lydia Bennet out there check out The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on Youtube, you won't be disappointed.)
I did like the deviation from one plot point (I won't spoil it, but I appreciate it). and how things were wrapped up at the end.
For fans of Pride and Prejudice, this is a must-read.
