I was going to try to rate this 3 stars because it’s essentially fanfiction, but dangit, I read this basically in one sitting. It was such a fun concept, and I was sad when it was over.
Not even going to lie probably one of my favorite books this year. The writing was really tranquil(not sure if that makes sense to anyone else but it does to me). And ugh the story!! Amazing!!!

I really do admire the writing style and knowledge of the author. It's beautifully done and I'd read it if she brought out an original story in this era with a bit more body to it.
This plotline seems a repeat of a few things. Darcy gushing over Elizabeth, Elizabeth getting annoyed at Darcy, they argue, they make up, he strokes her face and kisses her.
Somehow I felt really uncomfortable with this Darcy. He gave me the ick!!
He's so sappy and has no introspection unless Elizabeth rubs his nose in his faults. In the original story this was done much more organically I think. This story more closely resembles real life (where someone's character cannot be changed with one argument) but it's boring to see some bickering couple with her trying to improve him, and him hating her social circle but he's so in love so he'll bear it like the simp he is.
I understand this is a more realistic side of a marriage between two people that are quite opposite and don't know eachother well so they need to communicate to get along and better themselves.
But I found it really boring. And I think in real life these two people would just be too different to work long term. That's not the message I want to get from one of the most famous romance books of all time (although I have always thought Darcy and Elizabeth were not the best match in Jane's novels, at least she had the decency to make his character flaw something sexy that disappears as soon as it gets inconvenient for romance sake).

This is a fairly well done P&P retelling, the regency-era voice is OK (even OK is a big acheivement) and the characters are mostly recognisable. I thought there were also some good insights into various characters.
This was lovely. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't reasonably familiar with the original Pride and Prejudice, but I loved revisiting my favorite characters and seeing how plot points played out, some the same, some differently. Will absolutely be joining my re-read list.
