A spin of one of my favourite classics. I went in with some expectations for this and because of that, I was a little disappointed. It was cute but just wish some of the characters understandings was more refined so that development could have popped more as the plot moved forward.

“Unequal Affections” by Laura S. Ormiston ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What if Elizabeth Bennet had accepted Mr. Darcy’s proposal as Rosings? How would things play out? Would she get over her prejudice? Would he let go of his pride? “Unequal Affections” retells “Pride and Prejudice” from this perspective. Ormiston writes her story brilliantly—so brilliantly that it could be Ms. Austen herself.

This retelling is by far the best I’ve read so far because it gives us what we’ve been missing, Lizzie and Darcy as a couple, interacting more often than they did in P&P. I love how, even though this is a retelling, major beats and plot points still happen in some way, shape or form.  Everything that the characters do are in line with who they are at this core.

This retelling does pick up right in the middle of P&P at Rosings. It expects its readers to know the original work pretty intimately as it references scenes and dialogue from Austen’s work throughout the novel.

I’ve had a hard time trusting Austen retellings because of “Mr. Darcy’s Story,” but “Unequal Affections” is a marvel. I highly recommend it to any Jane Austen fan.

I love anything Pride and Prejudice so I was immediately interested in reading this book. At first I wasn't entirely sure I was going to enjoy it....Darcy's character was a little too prideful while Elizabeth's character had a little too much prejudice. Not how they were in my head after reading the original story. My diligence in reading this was rewarded. I loved this rendition of one of my favorite love stories, and it's best to read as if Austen's character development in the original story is disregarded. I was fully able to appreciate the conflict, and character development once I considered it its own story. The changes of heart and the desire to have hope were endearing. Recommended for anyone who loves the original or regency in general:)

What is Elizabeth Bennet accepted Mr. Darcy's first proposal? A wonderful, true to the original, exploration of Darcy & Lizzy's courtship. We get to see their relationship grow as they actually spend time together and deal with her family. A wonderful addition for those who already love everything Pride and Prejudice, want to see Darcy in his more intimate, vulnerable moments, and love a bit of angst. My only complaint is that Elizabeth blushed in every paragraph -- however justified, it was excessive

I'm no stranger to Pride & Prejudice retellings. I inhale them & greedily look for more.

'Unequal Affections' is hands down the best reimagining I have read. In this novel, instead of turning Mr. Darcy's marriage proposal down, Elizabeth decides it would be prudent, (for her & her crazy ass family), to accept it instead. I loved it! UA's has earned a coveted spot on my faves shelf, and I will definitely read it again in the future. I need Ormiston to write another book about the Darcy's new life at Pemberley. I would pay good money for that.

I enjoy most retellings of P&P, I'm not going to lie. They always make me feel like I'm meeting up with a few best-friends. However I usually find myself thinking, "Elizabeth Bennet would NEVER say that!' or "Mr. Darcy would NOT act like that ever.' With this book I felt that the characters acted & spoke pretty much in the same way they were originally portrayed by Jane Austen. Elizabeth & Darcy still had miscommunication issues, & they both had to work together to reach a few understandings. It wasn't just a *poof* NOW THEY ARE IN LOVE AND EVERYTHING IS MAGICAL!! I can't get behind those kind of retellings 100%. Darcy isn't going to change the way he acts overnight. Miss Bennett will still see Darcy as being pompous, and rude in his everyday life. 'Unequal Affections' deals with these things in a way that is believable.

PLUS there were lots of Darcy kisses people! What more do you need.
