I've reread Pride and Prejudice often and have consumed quite a few retelling but this was more like an Alternate Universe fanfiction and I say that in the best way possible. In this telling Lizzie very pragmatically accepts Darcy's first proposal and they fall in love slowly in the month leading up to the wedding.
I loved that the author seemed to understand Lizzie's character a lot more than other takes on the story which tend to paint Lizzie as super head strong and confrontational when she is actually fun and described as easy to laugh and joke. I enjoyed seeing Darcy face the many misteps he's taken due to his arrogance and classism and that we get to see him grow from their interactions. Highly recommended for the Austen fan

Beautifully written book. Loved the new relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy. What a classic couple and I loved the I'm depth character study of Darcy. We learned more about what made him tick and the responsibilities he carried. Great read!

The problem with retelling a Jane Austen novel is that Jane Austen's novels were great in the first place. How can you possibly improve on them? In this book Lara Ormiston sets out to retell Austen's book Pride and Prejudice (I LOVE P&P!) and the result is...meh. Just not like the original.
