Oh this is such a great read.
There is an instant attraction between Landon and Elle when they first meet and when they spend the night together it's electric but when she finds out that he is her new neighbour and he lied about his name she isn't happy.
The chemistry between them is off the charts but he keeps rejecting her.
She has not had an easy past and is recently divorced and his rejecting her only makes her feel worse but can they work through it when he eventually admits his feelings.
I loved how they were together and she is great with his daughter but when her past rears its ugly head will she lose him or can they get through it together.
A must read with so much drama and emotion but also a love that can't be denied.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

I loved this book! The chemistry between grumpy single dad Landon and recently divorced teacher Ellery was off the charts. I loved the enemies/neighbors to lovers story. I loved the cameos from Landon’s family. When I finished my ARC I immediately downloaded books one and two, and am counting down the days till book four. I highly recommend this book and you download the first three books in KU!

The story follows Landon, a man who has loved and lost. He’s a widower with a teenage daughter, and he locked his heart away when his wife died. So when Landon meets a beautiful woman in a bar, it’s just supposed to be a one night stand – even if they have a great connection. He’s not emotionally available for a relationship, and Elle is newly divorced with plenty of her own issues. But when Landon discovers that Elle is his new neighbor and his daughter’s new teacher, all of those good intentions fly out the window. They have the kind of chemistry that’s impossible to ignore, and they’re drawn together despite both of their hesitations. Their story started on a lie and she wasn’t asking questions prepared to start her new life as a divorcee but they soon learn of the repercussions.

It has been some time since I’ve read a new author to me. When I saw the blurb for J. Saman’s Doctor Heartless, I wanted to read about a cruel, heartless doctor and his love-hate relationship with a woman he meets as a one-night stand. I love a hardened hero; it’s my romance catnip. We know that they have emotional walls built from past trauma, and they fall so hard for the heroine, who is usually kicka@@ and in charge. All of this is true of J. Saman’s Elle and Landon. However, while seemingly different (he’s a billionaire from a prestigious, renowned Bostonian family, and she’s a middle-class woman from Texas), their pasts make them more alike than different. The beauty of J. Saman’s Doctor Heartless is the emotional journey that each of them must pass to overcome past traumas. What transpires is a tortured, steamy push/pull story that beckons you to turn the page towards their happy ending.

Landon’s characterization is delicious. He’s buttoned-up, a single dad whose life is all about his daughter. He carries the pain of his wife’s death and has decided that he is not worthy of love. As such, he’s stern and closed off to everyone except his daughter and family. This means he is due for a fall into love, and J. Saman doesn’t make it easy on the man. When he meets Ellery in a bar one night, he is haplessly and instantly attracted to her. Throughout much of the story, he fights his attraction to her, when he realizes she’s his next-door neighbor and his daughter’s teacher. And each moment he fights, he falls deeper and deeper until the poor man can’t help himself but love her. Landon’s evolution is one of the best parts of Doctor Heartless because we learn through his story that past mistakes don’t negate the ability to love and be loved.

Ellery aka Elle is essential to Landon’s journey. Like Landon, she has endured past trauma at the hands of her ex-husband. Unlike Landon, though, she decidedly leaves her comfortable life and marriage behind in order to become the best version of herself. She’s bold, compassionate, and strong. She challenges Landon in a way that no other woman has, and like him, she struggles to avoid her attraction to him, only to find herself addicted to the man. There is no Landon without Elle in this story. Together, their chemistry is pure fire.

Add to this Landon’s thirteen-year-old daughter, Stella, who is oftentimes the wisest person in the room. She binds them together, and J. Saman has written this in a way that feels meaningful, not tertiary to the story. She also reminds us that Doctor Heartless is book 3 of a larger series of standalones, and even though I haven’t read books 1 and 2, I don’t feel as though I’ve missed anything from this series. J. Saman beautifully integrates the Abbot-Fritzs well into this story, teasing us with the details for their stories while avoiding stalling Landon and Elle’s story.

Doctor Heartless is everything I wanted to read. Landon and Ellery’s journeys are apt reminders of our ability to overcome our pasts through the action of loving and being loved. If you’re like me and love yourself a grumpy, closed-off hero who is brought to his knees by a willful, strong heroine, then grab this newest book from J. Saman.

My favorite trope is grumpy-sunshine, and Landon is the epitome of a basic grump. After an amazing night with Elle where he uses his twin brothers name, they end up as next door neighbors, and Elle is his daughters teacher. He tries to fight the chemistry and pull to Elle, but obviously loses. Both Landon and Elle have trauma from their pasts that they have to overcome before their relationship can succeed. Seeing Elle create a beautiful relationship with Landon’s daughter was also quite exceptional. Hands down, my favorite Fritz boy so far…but I’m holding out for Kaplan!

GRUMPY x SUNSHINE >>>>>

This was an unexpected surprise for me. I instantly thought I was going to DNF because i normally don’t like a single parent trope. But I was so invested in these characters I looked past it and loved this. Landon was exactly as everyone described and I enjoyed him and Stella’s bond. But honestly, Elle made the whole book for me. She was great and funny and i like her sassiness especially her conversations with Luca.

If you loved the first book, you’re going to love the second. Doctor Heartless was sensational from start to finish

Thank you to Grey’s Promotions for sending me an ebook Advanced Readers Copy for me to read and review. This is my spoiler-free & honest review.

I first came across J.Saman thanks to Grey’s Promotions last year via the second book in this series, Doctor Mistake. What drew me into that read was the accidental pregnancy trope—a controversial trope among many—, and although Doctor Heartless didn’t carry on that trope as a main theme or sub-theme, I wanted to follow the series on and see where this grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers, full of steam romance would take me.

The reader is in!

Before the plot/storyline had a chance to develop, the opening was off to a start with quite literally, a bang! Pun intended. Landon, aka ‘Doctor Heartless’, is quite the character! Pun, again, intended. Who we get to see in the opening to this novel is the polar opposite of the grumpy character we will see later on, but was as charming as he was at knocking my socks off! Cheeks we’re aflame and blushing wish vigour. Woah! J.Saman has written one hell of a beast in bed and I’m all here for it!

‘He pretended to be someone else, and I didn’t ask a lot of questions’.

This angle of secrecy is always something I love when it comes up in books. When one character knows something the other doesn’t, and decides to keep it either intentionally or not so intentionally, just does it for me. I love the sneaky suspense and/or drama it creates when it all comes to an explosive head. J.Saman wove some creative comedy into moments throughout the book when this came up as a topic between characters, providing lighthearted relief and many a side-eye glare from Elle. The moments that made me laugh definitely balanced the tenseness felt from the page, for sure. J.Saman knows how to give both the good and the bad (not literally bad, but those moments that leave us screaming at the page/screen, having us reach for our bookish tissues etc..), and showcase how her superb writing and it’s styles can create a truly unforgettable story.

Speaking of storyline, let’s talk about it here in Doctor Heartless (as much as one can without dropping a spoiler!).

There was so much packed into this novel and for a novel that was already 95K-word-strong read (which I love!), that is a true testament to the author. It doesn’t feel like you’re reading too much, or that there’s too much going on for you to process at all. Everything is just right and I was actually sad to swipe the last page closed. Landon, Elle and Landon’s daughter Stella were true joys to get to know and read about, I didn’t want the last page to come! I especially loved who J.Saman wrote Stella to be in terms of her sexuality. You’ll know when you read it for yourselves, but I’ve never read about a character at that age knowing herself to be who she feels she is, and the amount of respect and dignity given to the character and the topic was immensely commendable.

If you’re looking to start a brand new read and/or series, I would recommend Doctor Heartless. Go back and read the first two by all means, but this is my favourite of the series so far and I’m putting it on my Amazon paperback wishlist right now.

I’m thrilled that this is my first ever five star rating for J.Saman, and I hope that I can give many more well-deserved ones to her in the future!

Landon and Elle are everything! I love me a guy who pretends to be a jerk but really isn’t, and that’s Landon. He guards his heart to protect his daughter and without trying,
Elle breaks down his barriers. Their love story is so sweet and swoony and HOT! I loved their story so much!
