Nora Grey had never envisioned romance as part of her life's plan. She'd always been indifferent to the boys at her school, despite her best friend Vee's persistent attempts to set her up. That is, until she encounters Patch. With his charming smile and penetrating gaze, Patch inexplicably draws Nora toward him, even against her own instincts.
However, a series of alarming and unsettling incidents leaves Nora questioning whom she can trust. Patch seems to shadow her every move, possessing an uncanny knowledge of her that extends beyond the boundaries of friendship. Nora is torn between the impulse to embrace his allure and the instinct to flee from his enigmatic presence. When she embarks on a quest for answers, she unwittingly stumbles upon a truth far more disconcerting than any emotions Patch stirs within her.
Nora finds herself thrust into the midst of an ancient conflict between the immortal and the fallen, and the consequences of choosing the wrong side could prove fatal. Her life hangs in the balance as she grapples with the weighty choice before her.
The initial draw for me to pick up this book and dive into its pages was undeniably its cover—it was simply breathtaking.
Upon meeting the main character, Nora, I must confess that my initial impression was far from favorable. She came across as somewhat feeble, and her behavior struck me as rather immature. However, as the story progressed, glimpses of her true character began to emerge, and I found myself growing more attached to her. Nora, despite her flaws, displayed a tenacious and assertive side that I came to appreciate. It's worth noting that while she can be stubborn and occasionally overbearing, these are common human imperfections that make her character more relatable. My primary concern, though, was her perceived lack of strength as a female lead; her reliance on Patch to rescue and guide her left me hoping for character growth in the upcoming books.
Patch, on the other hand, was a character who resonated more with my preferences. His brooding and enigmatic demeanor, tinged with a hint of cockiness and overconfidence, immediately drew me in.
As for the romance aspect of the book, I must admit that I found it somewhat underdeveloped, and my expectations were not fully met. However, when it did surface, it possessed a certain sweetness and charm that aligned with what I typically seek in a young adult novel.

I can absolutely see why this was a fave back when I was in middle school/high school! While it doesn’t have the same charm to me now as it would’ve then, it was still a highly entertaining read.
My biggest issue with the book was the pacing, I was getting very annoyed at the “not knowing what is happening” but also felt cheated out of a proper build up for Patch and Nora/a well fleshed out ending.
Overall though, entertaining book and I might read the second when I need a palette cleanser!

Read to fulfil a reading challenge category - to read a book tagged as ‘rubbish’ - so this was highly unlikely to be a book I’d rather that highly. It was a quick read, very over-the-top, and left out a lot of details that might have fleshed things out a little more. It had the makings of quite an interesting story, but it just didn’t hang together particularly well.
Our main character is high school student Nora. When she is paired up with the mysterious new student in her Sex Ed class, she finds herself intrigued by his mysterious persona. Realistically, whenever she sees Patch something odd happens, and he hangs around in distinctly insalubrious places. Not long after she gets acquainted with Patch more new figures appear in her life, and a series of unfortunate events occur around her.
Anyone with half a brain would run a mile. Not Nora.
Nora finds herself digging into Patch’s background and finding out his secrets. She’s (sort of) supported by her best friend Vee, but the things they get involved in get more and more outlandish.
Nora does, eventually, get the answers she was looking for. Heaven only knows where the series goes from here, but I don’t think I could do it to myself to keep reading.

I don't normally read paranormal romance, but I enjoyed the audio version of this well-written, character-driven YA novel. See my full review at:

[Edit: I previously gave this 2.5 stars, but, remembering Delirium, which I gave 2 stars, I now rate this book 1.5 stars]. Because I didn't really hate it like I should have. I'm just one big contradictory person, because whenever I've set out to love or hate a book, I usually end up feeling the opposite. I knew from the start of reading this book that I wasn't going to love it, but in the middle of it, I was just laughing at the ridiculous-ness of it all. And since I got a kick out of reading this, I may just have to attach that 0.5 star in there.
I've come to expect that this was a YA Paranormal book. It does feature a fallen angel. But three quarters of the book, it mainly felt like a teen psychological thriller. If that even exists. I guess, because I read The Mortal Instruments series, that I expected a lot of kick-ass fight scenes. There was, however, the slightly intriguing mystery (which I like) of who could want Nora dead. Apparently, almost all of the characters wanted her dead.
So it's not really more of a paranormal book, I guess, but a YA romance with paranormal elements. The romance, though, is the one that gave me the most kicks. Here's a straight A student, who has a dangerous attraction to a guy who could possibly be her stalker. Nora knows absolutely zilch about this person, except that he's hot. So it's okay that he's a possible stalker and that he may have assaulted your best friend, because you have 'gut instincts' into the goodness of his heart, and besides, he's hot. Is it okay that in the middle of arguing about his dubious identity, you suddenly have the overwhelming urge to kiss him? Wtf? (I actually enjoyed hating this scene, though). It's just a story of pure, basic lust, passing off as romance . Blrugh. But what the heck, at least I got a kick out of it.
I could write a lot of paragraphs describing the mind-fuckeries in this book and waste another hour, or I could just end this review with a not-so-short message:
Would I recommend you to buy this? No. (So really, Borj, god why'd you have to buy this?!) Instead do what I did, and borrow from a friend. *Cackles*
Don't let mediocre authors get so much profit from a not-well written story. It was obviously written in such a way, that you need a sequel, to get the cash flowin, so.... Shame on authors and publishers who milk it.

There are definitely several issues with this book, I won't deny that. But holy geez. I freaking love it. I want Patch to be MINE. Nora is one of the most obnoxious main characters EVER, and Vee is the biggest idiot best friend in the world. But Patch! Be still my heart.

cringiest most predictable book i’ve ever read and took until halfway through to even get to the fucking point but it was still entertaining… i will be reading the others. special acknowledgments to the fact that this reads like a school project where someone tried to plagiarise twilight and thought no one would notice
This book was overall a pretty decent book. The only qualms I have with this is the whole bad boy treats girl like shit and she secretly loves it trope that perpetuates the mistreatment of women because "the secretly find it attractive". I liked how this girl threw it right back at him but still...The dialogue was kinda weird and the wording of stuff was awkward but you get used to it I guess? In the end over all I enjoyed the book but was able to put it down and not pick it back up for several days. This book was slightly warmer than lukewarm but the concept is cool and the story is interesting enough with some interesting characters and development.
Eep! It doesn't get 5 stars because of the first half and all of the annoying. In fact I prob would have given it 3 stars but then the ending was really really good and I ended up liking Patch and Nora by the end so I'm forgiving all the little things that don't really make sense. At any rate, I couldn't put it down! Definitely going to read the next one.
