Solid 3.5
Very demure very classy.
World building, especially the fallen angels lore, was complete shit. I think we should've taken more time explaining the lore. Fallen angels and whatnot. We should've also explored Nora's dad's side of the family, like forreal. It was mentioned once and then never brought up again...?
Patch's lore should've also been explored... you know like HIS REAL FUCKING NAME HELLO??? Why does she not question that kind of shit?
Also... Elliott.. my god. Poor dude.

I love the subtle world building but I feel like the relationship was rushed. There didn’t feel like a reason for them both to feel so passionately about each other. The mystery element was a lot of fun and kept my reading at a fast pace

Okay I loved this! This definitely holds up reading it 13 years after my first read. Lots of fun, mystery, intrigue, and I love a morally grey man. It was great.
This book was problematic. The writing style itself wasn't bad, and as far as mystery goes, you spend quite a bit of time guessing, but the content... Nora consistently made decisions that put her in unsafe situations, the supposed love interest Patch consistently ignored any and all of the few boundaries Nora attempted to set, and it seemed to glorify the idea of a dangerous bad boy stalker. Think Twilight, but with even more lines crossed. What really did it for me is Nora's best friend, Vee. Nora told Vee that a man made her uncomfortable/frightened, and Vee ignored that and continued to pressure her into situations that left her alone with that man. If I told any one of my friends that a man made me uncomfortable or that I didn't feel safe around him, each and every one of them would do their best to ensure that I never saw him again, let alone encouraged me to be alone with him. Because that's what friends do, when they're actually concerned with each other's well being.
I wouldn't teach this, or recommend it to anyone, really, especially a YA teen who might be influenced by the lack of safety and boundaries this book contains. If a boy makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, don't date him, please.
Potential warnings:
-Violence
-disregarded boundaries

Nora Grey is assigned to work with the enigmatic bad-boy Patch for a science project. Although he is infuriating, she finds herself drawn to him. Nora starts to experience things that aren't really happening like falling off an amusement park ride, getting attacked in the street. She can't figure out what's happening to her. At the same time, Patch starts to appear everywhere. AFter sening that something is not quite right about Patch and seeing mysterious v-shaped scars on his back, Nora does some digging and uncovers an unbelievable truth. There are quie a few mysteries going on in this book with twists and turns along the way. I like the mythology of fallen angels - it was a nice change from vampires and werewolves. I will say that I felt the ending was a bit contrived. It would have been better if it was less "happy".
