Just when I thought I had had enough of YA for a while, Hush, Hush arrived in my mailbox. I was so excited to have it I gave it a shot anyway. I'm really lucky that I did.
Becca Fitzpatrick's writing style was refreshing, and I couldn't put the book down. About 25 pages in I was already laughing out loud and becoming attached to the characters. While I couldn't get used to a lot of the names the author used, (Patch, Chauncy, and even Nora sounded a little off to me personally) that didn't take away from how well-developed the characters themselves were. I sympathized with Nora, I fell(no pun intended) for Patch. There was chemistry between them from very early on, yes. But it wasn't love-at-first-sight. The relationship they have actually had some time to develop, to gain real substance.
While I wasn't completely stumped by the plot, it wasn't super-predictable, either. There were twists, some I saw coming, some I only suspected at, and a few that took me by surprise. The ending wasn't neatly tied up, but it wasn't a cliffhanger. To me both were a pleasant surprise. There was no cookie-cutter ending, but the story being told did have at least some resolution. The perfect leave-off for a second book to follow. :) Given the events of Hush, Hush, a sequel isn't necessary. However, one wouldn't feel forced or rushed like some sequels do either.
5 stars - because the plot, writing style, world-building, and characters don't leave any room for disappointment. And for me, that's not something I find every day.
Even though the book isn't actually set to be in stores until October, I'm sure it will be a hit with YA readers once it hits the shelves. I'm so grateful to have gotten an early copy. An enticing title, a book about Fallen Angels? Even at first glance, who could resist? Definitely not me. I'm already recommending the book to my friends.

5/5

I tried to like this book. I really did.
But not only did it fail to make a lasting impression on me, the protagonist annoyed me. And I... I can't even remember her name. I'm sorry, the only main names that stuck are Patch and Vee.
Unfortunately, although I tried to think differently, it had a number of similarities to Twilight. I don't know what I expected, maybe something better than Twilight. Fallen angels- cool, right? Seems to me the only thing they could do is slip into minds. If I was the protagonist, I'd have gone insane telling apart what's reality and what's not.
So here we got this first person narrative I hope would be funny or snarky at least. In no way is this book a Kate Daniels or Night Huntress type voice. If you like protagonists like those, reading this book is probably a mistake. What you will Find is a girl with a dose of squeamishness and vulnerability who protagonists like Rose Hathaway will put to shame. But then, to be fair, I've read worse.
So Let's talk about the characters. Patch is sexy alright, and once you get over the irritating preliminaries, you'll like him - except of course, if stalkerish tendencies isn't your thing. I, however, didn't fall in love with him, and I didn't care much for the stalkerish attitude. Then again, that's probably because Bones-er-Barrons already stole my heart-erm, what was I saying?
The protagonist, whose name I still can't remember annoyed me for a number of reasons. One, because her 'no' doesn't mean no, it means 'yes'. I couldn't count the number of times she contradicts herself.
The 'i don't like you' but 'i do' gets irritating after a while.
Reason no. 2? She's too vulnerable. I almost felt sorry for her that she's put up against creatures that could kill her in a second.
Third reason? I found her a rather dull character, too weak for my taste. Who the hell runs straight for a likely killer without some sort of defence? I don't think those so-called boxing lessons counted. Didn't help much later, did it? Wouldn't call her suicidal, maybe I'd settle for impulsive. Heck, maybe even a little foolish.
The blurb pretty much sums it up. Thinking it could be better was my mistake. If you love YA, by all means, read it.

I loved this book! I haven't read a book about angels in a while so it was a nice change. I can't wait to read the next book!
I can't love this book enough. It is such a fun, sexy, exciting book!!!!

I have read it back in high school. Now, when I reread it again, it still gives me a good butterflies in stomach kinda feeling. I love Patch and I still love him now.🤣
I have a love hate relationship with Nora characteristic. At this age, I found her a bit annoying, cringing with i'm-not-like-other-girls attitude. Back then, this kind of character is quite popular. I guess my preference has changed.
