Don't meet your heroes. Or, in other words, don't reread books you loved in middle school.
When I tell you I was obsessed with this book, I was OBSESSED
4.5⭐️ i could barely put this down holy crap i love it
To be frank, this was a beach read. Is it obviously inspired by twilight? Yes. Was it still very entertaining? Yes! It's geared towards high school readers, but the author gave the characters good chemistry that kept me entertained the whole time. Of course, some stuff is corny (like the cover....what's up with that??? I was embarrassed when my scuba instructor saw what I was reading lol) but it's an enjoyable book, and has left me interested in reading the next one.
Norah Grey thinks she's just a typical high school student with average grades and her own problems. That is until a new boy, Patch, shows up at school and things start to become a little terrifying and hard to handle.
Your typical young adult supernatural romance book, Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush delivers nothing more than a contrived and clichéd plot. There is nothing new or exciting about the overall premise. It's pretty much the same formula as most other YA supernatural romance novels, with the only difference being the type of supernatural being in focus.
Norah comes across as a little bit too mature for her age, given that she is supposed to be sixteen years old. Despite how utterly annoying her friend Vee is, she is actually a much more believable character in terms of maturity (or lack thereof).
Fitzpatrick also overstepped the line a little bit in her attempts to make Patch seem dark, mysterious, and dangerous. Bordering on abusive, I couldn't help but cringe my way through most scenes between Norah and Patch. Nothing about him made me at all curious to discover what he was truly like, because he was simply awful right from the beginning; not the slightest flush of warmth, or the tiniest inkling of any redeeming qualities.
There was potential for the plot to be developed into something much more interesting than it was, but it fell short, I felt, because of the clichéd teen romance aspect.
I would recommend it to anyone who simply wants to add another supernatural beau to their list of literary love interests, but overall it was an incredibly quick and boring read. Three stars simply because the cover art was quite amazing.

So.... I bought this book a LONG time ago, but a bunch of my fellow GR peeps hated it. Hence my reluctance to start it.
It's not my favorite in the YA-Angel genre, but I thought that the story overall was sweet. I get that people find the stalker boy/teen angst/weakish girl stuff annoying, but it's fiction people.... It usually annoys me too, but for some reason I wasn't bothered by this one. I saw Nora grow into a stronger person as the story went on, and I'm sure she'll become even stronger.
The nephilim mythology was easy to follow, and I thought that the pace of how the mystery unfolded was well done. There is still a lot left in the dark with Patch, as well as Nora's family history. I'm not satisfied with the small explanation given about her, so I'm hoping it comes out more in the series.
