Definitely an easy read for anyone who's read a Star Wars novel for adults instead of YA, but I love Ahsoka enough to have enjoyed reading it.

I’m fully aware that I am the target demographic for this book and my overall enjoyment of it reflects that. If you’re a fan of Ahsoka’s character and are looking for a little more content with her then you’ll probably enjoy your time reading. However, if you don’t care about the larger galaxy or multi POV then this isn’t for you.
Even for myself, who is a fan of those things, felt as though they were the weakness here. The passage of time felt very hard to follow with all the planet hopping Ahsoka had done, especially in the last third. Ahsoka is out doing enough good deeds, for Bail to catch wind which implies she’s been doing this for at least a few weeks if not longer. So does that mean everyone has been huddled in the caves on Raada all this time and nobody has found them?
The other small issue I had was with one perspective that’s so inconsequential I don’t really know why it was included. Jenneth Pilar has maybe 5 pages total and does nothing but tell us why the Empire chose Raada. I personally think his perspective added nothing and could have been cut from the book.
These last two points are more “nitpicks” but still contributed to my rating. I think there could have been another round of editing. There were sentences that felt clunky or wordy, or even sections I don’t think needed to be there (see Jenneth Pilar and Ahsoka’s encounter with a Black Sun agent).
I also felt there was an over reliance on the reader already having an understanding of Ahsoka’s character, and the unsubtle references to Clone Wars episodes. When Ahsoka reflects on the past (in all but one instance), it’s to memories of a Clone Wars episode. Which is fine, I love the Clone Wars, but it would’ve been nice to hear new memories instead of relying on something pre-existing.
Overall I enjoyed this glimpse of what Ahsoka was up to. If you’re not already a big fan of her then this probably isn’t for you, since at this point of 2025 (9 years after this book was published, and remember this was written before S7 of Clone Wars or The Tales Of series were even thought of) you’re not getting anything new or groundbreaking.

Fun story that shows Ahsoka's path after the end of the clone wars.
ok so i love Ahsoka, her story in the Clone Wars show was so moving and raw and heartfelt, and we get to see her grow up and watch her change and mature and question. i feel like this book is Ahsoka at a place of defeat and fear, running from the Empire after Order 66. and i loved that we got to see her story continue, and saw how she reignited her flame of doing good by the people for the people by using her teachings from Obi-Wan and Anakin. that’s what i love about this book.
now what i didn’t love was a couple of things. i definitely feel like this is written for a younger audience, so to be fair i can’t complain that i wanted it to be more deep into the lore. it does read like an episode of the Clone Wars. but there were opportunities where i felt the story could have gone farther than it did. maybe there will be another book where we revisit that Force sensitive child on Fardi, which i felt could be a good opportunity for more character growth of Ahsoka. i also really wish that Ahsoka didn’t just run away from Ilum. maybe the scale of the Empire’s takeover and destruction wasn’t gauged well, but how cool would it have been to have her go in and do a stealth mission sort of thing? i feel like we could have seen her begin to have that fire from when she was in the Order, and help with her realization that she wants to help fight the Empire rather than run from it. i think it could have given more exposition to the terror and destruction in the Empire’s path. and the fight scene with the inquisitor was so lackluster. i was hoping for a lightsaber battle! all signs were pointing to one! because she went to Ilum, i was like omg she’s gonna make her lightsaber and then no. then she felt the crystals on Raada so i was like okay now she’ll make her lightsaber. but alas, i was jebaited. i think the buildup to the battle was that the Sixth Brother would be a worthy opponent, and it’s nice when you get to see your main character struggle and overcome. so i was pretty disappointed with the final battle.
it’s still a good read and one to give a try if you’re a fan of Ahsoka!!

Maybe 2.5 stars. I love Ahsoka, but I just feel that this story didn't do her justice. I didn't care about any of the other characters, nothing happened for 2/3 of the story, and the showdown was disappointingly anticlimactic.
This was a great story showing us what happened to Ahsoka Tano after her last appearance in "The Clone Wars" to her reappearance in "Star Wars: Rebels" and I was very excited to read it. Naturally the book doesn't go into every nook and cranny of Ahsoka's life during that time but E.K. Johnston does an excellent job exploring the character. A fun read for fans of Anakin Skywalker's protege.
