Ahsoka

E.K. Johnston

4.04 AVERAGE

After binging all of The Clone Wars and all of Star Wars Rebels, I was ready to continue my love affair with Ahsoka Tano. And it was really great to read about her and the events that led to her joining the rebellion. Overall, it was a lot of fun. I think my main issue was that I wish there'd been more introspection and more character exploration rather than action (I know I know, it's Star Wars, but still)--though I think we'll have more of that in the new season of The Clones Wars. And honestly, I wasn't a huge fan of the writing itself. It's not bad, but if felt clunky at times, too simplistic. Definitely not offputting in a way that made it hard to read or enjoy just... I just wasn't a huge fan. (on a purely personal preference as well, though the majority of the book is from Ahsoka's POV, there were just way too many random POVs for my taste--close to 10 I would say, off the top of my head. Sometimes just for a little scene, which often felt superfluous and non-essential. Like the Anakin POV and the Obi-wan one).

Totally looking forward to reading the book about Padmé from the same author, though!

I loved Star Wars as a kid, I love Star Wars as an adult. I love seeing my kids love Star Wars. But it is only by reading the few Star Wars books I have lately that I have really started to appreciate Star Wars as more than just great and entertaining movies. It is largely through the books that I am able to view the entirety of the Star Wars saga for the deeper metaphors and allegories that are woven into the narrative.
In this novel, Johnson does a great job presenting the depth of Ahsoka's personality and the challenges one faces when trying to deal with life changing events. Yes it is done in some relatively straightforward ways, but at the same time that doesn't make the story any less potent. It is tough for me to be objective with this story, so I won't try. I loved the story, and I want more.

As a huge fan of the character from the cartoons, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, the writing just isn't up to snuff.

That was fun!

Part of my journey through a chronological storyline for Star Wars. This was a great book - well written with good character development.

A must read for every Star Wars fan. One of the best stories in the Star Wars universe. You will love and admire Ahsoka Tano even more after this. It's also a great story about living more in the present, not in the past, less in the future. "Welcome to the Rebellion!"

Great story and premise. I loved being able to get into Ahsoka's thoughts as she is my favorite Star Wars character. Lots of bittersweet moments and I was hoping for the final fight to be a bit more descriptive.

Although a young adult novel, it contains a lot of backstory for my favorite star wars character. I recently reread it after watching 'stories of the jedi' and enjoyed it, even more the second time.

My sudden obsession with reading Star Wars novels (thanks, Mando) continues. I enjoyed this even more than Thrawn, probably because (1) I know who Ahsoka is and (2) she's a good guy, not a bad guy.
