My daughter has been obsessed with this series for a year, and she not-so-subtly put it on my nightstand so I thought I should give it a go. Very sweet chosen-one dragons of destiny book. 

World building was a little shakey, but understandable as they were underground for half the book. Love the found family aspect. Was a bit surprised at some of the innuendo/ hinted adult themes. The gladiator action, King Herrod/ Jesus dragon egg holocaust, racial discrimination/ lazy immigrant narrative (Glory)clays mom definitely giving off prostitute/ pawn shop vibes. It was a lot. I don’t think my kiddo got the same things out of it, of course, but as an adult these themes popped out. 

Overall this was very engaging and engrossing for its intended age range.  I’d probably rate it 3.75 for an adult and I’m  excited to read the next in the series.

📖
This was a fun and quick read. I had a good time. The different dragon clans/wings were very interesting. I thought the characters were fun, the plot was predictable, and I liked the writing style for a middle-reader book.

This was a fairly decent middle grade fantasy. I didn't enjoy it as much as I have some other middle grade sci fi/fantasy books I've read in recent years, but then again I'm also definitely not the target audience here and I know this would have been something I enjoyed immensely as a kid. It has a similar level of violence to the Warriors series (which is unsurprising, as the author was part of the Erin Hunter team), and sets the tone of the book pretty well right from the prologue. I am interested to see where this series goes.
