Tremendous historical fiction filled with twists, turns, and deception. This is best read slowly with a physical copy of the book. There are too many characters slipping into too many backstories to follow on audio or on kindle. The author’s note at the end made it even better. It’s only January but this will probably be on my top 10 of the year. Highly recommend.

Loved this. Set in 1920s underworld in London. Caught up immediately in the main characters and their different relationships. Proper page turner. Excellent

historical novel about crime in London after WW One. Very surprising in many ways. Strong female characters. Dispels any idea about the idea that things are so bad now and used to be so good.

I am super annoyed at this book. I know I usually find something to love, but I chalk that up (or is it chock that up?) to pretty much only reading recommended books. This one was recommended AND it started out really well — good characters, compelling plot… I even stayed up late last night to finish it! What a waste. Totally stupid ending that was not satisfying at all. It felt like the author just chucked it in at the end to tie up all the loose ends in the laziest way possible. Ugh!!! Do not bother with it. :(
