Boring! I want to learn about the murders, not the whole history of Mormonism

Very interesting but heavy. Not exactly a fun read but always interesting to see inside any fanatical religion.

I read this because of the new miniseries coming out and I've read a few others by Krakauer (Into the Wild has been reread many times, of course) This is centered around "the removal revelation" received by a former Fundamentalist Mormon, carried out by two brothers in 1984. If you know this author, you know the research and backstory is exhaustive and can make for dense reading at times. But if you've ever been interested in the beginnings of the LDS church as a whole and then how it has fractured into its various factions, this pretty fairly covers that building up to the misguided beliefs of these zealots. Tragic, and from this account, was completely avoidable.

medium-paced

If you go into this book thinking it’s like the show, you will be sorely mistaken. The book is well-written and fascinating, but definitely heavy.
