It was kind of cute. Kind of fun. I'd read a sequel.

So I created a new shelf for this book: Glad It's Over. This wasn't bad per say, but it seemed like a really immaturely written book. I feel like a teenager wrote it, with the crazy plot points and unrealistic dialogue. At one point Gabriella and Rafer are trapped on an island and need to get to a boat in the ocean, so he says something like, "We can just swim out in shark-infested waters. Why not, we have nothing better to do."

At no point was anything in this book remotely believable. Gabriella is trying to find a ring which will bring in money for her hometown in South Carolina which has been ravaged by a hurricane. She and Rafer, her ex-husband travel around the world to find it, getting mixed up in a drug ring and trying to outsmart a bad guy who wants to sacrifice Gabriella to some sort of demon god. Then a spirit of one of her ancestors eventually saves her and they get $8 million in cryptocurrency to save town, so all's well that ends well. I'm sorry, WHAT??? I had hoped that this might be a fun new series to start but it's not for me. I give the plot a 2 and the characters a 3 out of 10. Overall grade is a D. The best part about this book was that it was short.

Two exes team up searching for a missing treasure that will solve problems for each of them. I enjoyed the banter and chemistry between Gabriella and Rafer. These two exes still have sizzling chemistry as they are dropped into an unknown world full of drug dealers and dangerous snakes. Somewhat of a modern take on Tomb Raider, this was a fun adventure romance that was great on audio. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy!

This is my first book by this author and to preface, I am glad I read about Evanovich’s writing style before I read this book. She writes very fast paced, easy to read books where you just have to accept that and keep moving on with the book. Quite different than other authors, but I did appreciate it. This could very easily have been a 600+ page book or dragged out over a few books.

Gabriela is a recovery agent. She is hired to recover lost or stolen items, specializing in insurance fraud. When her hometown is destroyed by a hurricane, Gabriela sets out to recover the lost Ring of Solomon. Her journey first takes her to her Ex-husband, Rafer’s, house who decides to team up with Gabriela to help her find the ring and save their town. Their journey takes them to South America where they find there is someone even more desperately searching for the lost ring.

I would like to thank Atria Books and Janet Evanovich for this Advanced Readers Copy of The Recovery Agent, won from Goodreads First reads!

Full of Adventure

If you're looking for a Stephanie Plum #2, Gabriela Rose is not it. I enjoyed Janet Evanovich's The Recovery Agent. It was exciting and Gabriela was a badass. She is smart, brave, and has an arsenal of other skills to get the job done.

If I'm being honest, the ending left a little to be desired because it felt like a strange way to end, but it was a fun read, and I am interested in reading where Gabriela is headed to next.
