This was a great sequel! I really enjoy the writing and the puzzles to solve. Maybe more of an upper middle grade book but still very enjoyable!

I actually liked the 2nd book quite a bit better than the first. All of the action was interesting and kept the story moving better I thought. I had one great reader in my class who loved the first one not able to get into this one. I think these books are for a specific type of reader - who doesn’t mind 1800 pages to solve a puzzle! This was a fun adventure though. Looking forward to #3.

Enjoyable, but no Harry Potter. I’ll read the final instalment next just to finish the take.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
This one wasn't as good as I had expected. I found the end confusing. In addition, I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was horrible when he read older characters. He made them sound like howling ghosts.

This is a great series! I love how it brings hidden people from history to the forefront while presenting an alternate history. I had a few eye-roll moments when it felt a little preachy in an environmentalist and feminist way, but otherwise I really enjoyed it!

One of my new favorite characters is Ono! It reminded me warmly of Mo from Wall-E (Mo, foreign contaminant!) In all, SO GOOD. Unexpected revelations and looking forward to read the next.
Also, in light of everything that's going on now, I appreciate how the author wove in some unconscious (and conscious) bias (racism) incident(s). Because, even though the book was written before the current times, this has been going down for a while now and it's just now "more accessible" to see that this more than a common occurrence (sadly). And the incidents weren't written in a way to make this earth-shattering. As in, that wasn't the point of the book, but part of the character's story (stories), but I find that kind of sad. What becomes "normal".
Overall, good read, page-turner.

I love Ruby’s writing; it’s so vivid! The story was very twisty and left me with more questions than answers, so I can’t wait for book three.

Don’t remember much from the first book and still found this generally enjoyable.
