I didn’t care for any of the characters, and the story was ridiculous. Struggled to make it through. Ugh.
Can’t remember who recommended this book to me. It’s an interesting tale of a mother and her three grown children that end up in a cruise together. They all have their own issues with depression and life. Over the years they seem to have avoided each other in order to avoid the truth but being on the cruise ends up making them each reevaluate their lives.
While I did like all of the characters, I struggled with how much they wouldn’t say and how that ended up causing their lives to go down not great paths. So many times I just wanted to yell at them to talk about what they were thinking and feeling with each other instead of stuffing their feelings!
I will say this, I really want to go on a cruise to Europe now though!

So I picked up (clicked play in my Libby app) because it has a yellow cover (lol) and I'm on a kick to read books with yellow covers. Anyway, I came to like the family members as the book went along. But it was just a slow time getting there. 3 stars. Not mad I read, but the book was just OK. Even though Charlotte’s character annoyed me, I did like her essay and the way she changed as a person at the end.
3.5 for me
Easy to read and I also did enjoy the character development of the characters.

Why are these people on a European cruise and decide to stay on the ship the whole time??? Like hello, explore Europe?!?

The book follows a dysfunctional family that has to spend time together on a 10-day cruise. Charlotte Perkins, 70, won an essay contest to go on a Mediterranean cruise and hopes to bring her children together on the trip.
It took a while for the book to get to the juicy drama and to the point where I wanted to keep reading, but overall it was a fun, easy read. Great for a beach read - or a social-distancing read.

This was...different. It kept me interested. I thought it was well written and the characters were flawed and believable.
