A perfect modern fairy tale (grim of course) probably late middle school level to early high school. (I read in 2 days! :) )

Reading Katniss as aromantic is what mades the book bearable to read and made her incredibly relatable. Better than the movie obviously but good at watch both because
the movie is essentially the same as the in universe 3 hour recap- playing up the romance and being made by the ruling class to pacify the working class.

This book holds up to when I first read it years ago. It makes you think and examin the world around you. The injustices, the cruelty, the ways those in power will do anything to maintain even just the semblance of control.
The movies have never done justice to just how dark and heart breaking it all is. These children being punished for the perceived "sins" of their ancestors and made examples of for everyone to stay in line.
I cried just as hard and continue to see just why this is the book people constantly try to emulate and unfortunately come no where near.

I tried reading this book in 12th grade at my sister’s behest after she dragged me to the movie. The dystopian genre just isn’t my thing. I didn’t get very far into it.
