Great book, been re-reading it almost every year for the past 10 years. Recommend it for older teens (14+) and young adults.

the hunger games shows us a dystopian world that is realistic and mature, instead of everything being perfect and visually appealing we see riots, starvation and a whole lot of death. this shows the contrast between the scavengers who live in the districts killing anything they can eat and the capitol who are stylish and spoiled coming across as alien-like.

the world building is fantastic, all the districts are so different and detailed it makes a very diverse world. the characters were also very well written and extremely detailed. i loved gale and peeta’s (bread boy <3) characters as the contrast between them was strong but they had one thing in common.

this book is a portrayal of sacrifice, love, survival and support. i would recommend this book to everyone who loves getting completely immersed in another world.

I first read this series in my twenties, and I'm now reading this again at age 31. Overall, it holds up quite a lot. I now understand Katniss to be an aroace character, even if that wasn't the author's intention. That reading has added a new dimension and flavor to the narrative. The chapters are masterfully crafted, and I don't think the author ever got enough credit for the skillfulness of her writing.

idk if this is just the nostalgia speaking, but honestly this book is so damn good and there isn't a thing I would change about it.

Absolutely perfect. The only good thing to come out of the 2010s dystopian surge. Made me cry, made me giggle and twirl my hair, made me so mad, loved it. Love the message and the way it’s written, love the characters, love everlark.
