✨5/5✨

First solid five of the year for me! It's simply a book that I couldn't put down once I started reading, had to force myself away a few times because of things and all. But it's definitely one its way to becoming one of my favorite series—we'll see!

it really is sooooo crazy how popular this pro-revolution anti-fascist YA series became isn’t it. it’s literally so radical and we just don’t acknowledge it because our society simply can’t handle it. and like. did suzanne collins even mean to write the most politically radical piece of mass media of the 21st century? i don’t know that she didn’t but somehow it feels hard to believe that she did.

and yeah it really all does hit different in 2024 doesn’t it.

ok but as for this book. when i first read it in eighth grade all i cared about was katniss/peeta. engrained from twilight i suppose but it makes me cringe to consider. the last time i tried to read it a few years ago i couldn’t make it very far in because the simplistic first person POV writing was soooo grating to me. and well it still is but after powering through a little longer the truly excellent story takes precedence and saves the day. wish a good writer wrote it though still, sorry suzanne!
