I don’t know. I just didn’t really enjoy this that much. It was fun enough at times, but I just didn’t vibe with it. It’s also a lot different from the movie.

I adored listening to this classic children’s story. When Mary Poppins comes to care for the Banks children she brings discipline, much needed attention, whimsy, magic and plenty of dry British humor. Each chapter can be read as a standalone adventure or as part of the whole tale; some of the chapters feature in the movies and others do not. My favorite was the story of Mrs. Corry and the gingerbread. Definitely read if you are a fan of fairy tales or the Disney movie.

Gyerekkorom egyik kedvence volt ez a könyv, anyu mindig ebből olvasott fel nekem és az öcsémnek esténként. Aztán egy költözés alkalmával valahogyan elkallódott; azt hittem már nincs is meg, így tavaly amikor a padlást takarítottuk volt ám meglepetés, amikor egy dobozban megtaláltam a gyerekkori könyveinket, köztük a Mary Poppinst is. :)
Felnőtt fejjel újraolvasva is nagyon szép emlékeket ébresztett bennem, habár ez szerintem főleg a nosztalgia faktornak köszönhető. Nekem nagyon fontos, hogy szeressem az adott főszereplőt is, hogy kellemesen teljesen az olvasási élmény és ez esetben ez nem nagyon volt meg. Mary karaktere, kerek-perec kimondom, kimondottan idegesítő és negatív volt a számomra. Az állandó oktalan mogorvasága a gyerekek felé és az, hogy folyamatosan csak a kirakatokban nézegette magát nagyon nem tette szimpatikussá. Ez pedig természetesen gyerekfejjel még nem tűnt fel, vagy nem így maradt meg bennem, ezért ezen meg is lepődtem.
A könyv szerkezetileg akár egy novelláskötet is lehetne, mivel nem egy cselekménysorozatot ír le, hanem a Banks gyerekek és Mary különböző kalandjait majdnem egy éven át, mielőtt as szél irányt változtatott volna. Kedvencem a "John és Barbara története" volt, ami a két legfiatalabb Banks ikerről szóló aranyos, ámbár melankolikus történet a gyermekkori ártatlanság elvesztéséről. A többi történetet is élveztem, össze tudtam hasonlítani azzal amikor gyerekkoromban hallottam őket először, és sok emlék is beugrott közben. :)

The story is a bit too random for me. There seems to be no real storyline or moral of the story. Just some random situations that don't seem to be related tk each other.

The beginning of it was very simple and felt a bit too juvenile, but from the half point onwards, it started being more engaging and interesting, hence the rating. It was an okay read, but I'm salty about not reading it at a point in my life when I would have appreciated it more, because magical it still remains.
