Queen Song

Two and a half stars. This novella is a prequel to the Red Queen series. It's always interesting to have more of the backstory.

Gives some back story if thats what you want, but overall kind of unnecessary.

I am utterly disappointed. I loved Red Queen, and I wanted to find out what happened to Cal's mother. This book gave me a glimpse of that. Barely. It seemed to be sloppy and choppy.

It read like a girl's diary, obviously, but there were things missing. I wanted to see her descent into madness and paranoia, but this book jumped between the sane girl getting married to the prince to the paranoid Singer. I got some idea about that, but I wish it would show in the book more.

I would've loved to get to know Sara and Julian more, but alas, Aveyard didn't grant us that. This book could've been longer and more polished, but I get that it's only a novella. Good, but not as good as the first book. 4 stars from me.

Even though it would be of no prize , I somehow wish that Mare could read the diary of Coriane . Show her the strength and sometimes downfall of love , or even power .

Also was Elara in her head the whole time? Because how did she get away when Coriana confronted her . And if not was she really just going mad ?

I really enjoyed this novella. I actually think I enjoyed this little peek into Coriane's life more than I enjoyed Red Queen. I love Victoria Aveyard's writing, and reading something that felt totally original was just such a treat. I loved seeing some of the character's I was already familiar with when they were young. Even if it wasn't as action-packed as Red Queen, it held my attention the whole way through. My only criticism would be that I would have loved it to be a little longer, to get more into Coriane's mind and see her descent into madness. I loved her character and it was so sad to see her becoming so obsessed and depressed, even in that short story. I would definitely recommend fans of Red Queen read Queen Song. I really enjoy Aveyard's writing, and I'm so happy to see that as the series grows, so does its originality.
