It just could’ve been more. I understand it’s a novella but it felt rushed, when the dynamics between the characters could have been further explained. I was also hoping for more details for
her death
but I didn’t really get those answers

This is a prequel to [b:Red Queen|22328546|Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)|Victoria Aveyard|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1449778912s/22328546.jpg|25037051]. It's an interesting insight into Queen Coriane and Elara.

I really like reading the queen's point of view and getting to know her. It was upsetting how much the stress was doing t her body; it made me question what would have happened if she told Julian about everything that was happening. It was an interesting chose to allow readers to mostly be in the mind of the Queen rather than her interactions with people, with was a pro and con of the book. This book gets a 3.5 for me; I do wish that the ending wasn't so sudden and greedy I would have wanted more insight into the relationship between the Queen and her husband, but it alludes to how the war changed him as a person, but I wanted more of a deep dive into that. I also wanted to see her more in the role of a mother, which was really brushed over. Overall, this book could (and still can be) expanded out into 300-500 more pages, letting readers into the corrupt world of the Singer Queen.

What I realized: Shit, I forgot everything about this series! I must reread to first two books. But as I was finishing this I remembered a lot so, yay. I quite enjoyed this one

Seeing a bit of a cute romance in this series was really refreshing!! I feel like it’s all so dark I feel bad to the characters :( I just finished glass sword, so I have quite a while to go yet however I really did find myself longing for more of a backstory on characters like Julian and Sara while reading.

This novella quenched some of my thirst for wider backstory. However it was so sad idk if i would’ve been better off not reading it at all lmao.
She was really just a young girl caught up in a mess of a society she didn’t belong in and she slowly cracked under pressure. Glad her story was written tho bc it really gives depth to some characters were the series doesn’t.
