Absolutely heartbreaking companion novella as we see Coriane's brief time with Cal before Elara destroys her. Really liked this one.

This novella felt like a condiment to the meal of the plot that is the Red Queen series. I highly recommend reading this prior to reading War Storm, as it is referenced multiple times within that final book. It gives perspective on just how cruel and manipulative Elara Merandus was and who Cal's mother was.
Read this one in less than a day (and evening really), as it was less than 60 pages long.
Enjoyed the look back on Cal's mom as she became queen, and the early days.

I wasn’t into this story until about the halfway point. I liked that it was backstory about Coriane, but it just wasn’t exciting me.
Until that ending. I had to read the last few paragraphs twice. That was so beautifully done. Definitely turned my rating upside down.

I am so shocked even thought i knew Elara killed coriane but i never thought that she was this weak , not her ability but her as a person, so afraid everything around her so fragile like a glass that will break at any moment , though i see why cal liked building this things like his mom but in the end how she wanted her son to live not as soldier but maybe as a king
