Queen Song

It's a cute story and an opportunity for us to really compare Queen Coriane and Mare. They are both caring for family and a bit insecure, they both carry strength that they themselves seem blinded to and a desire for love and equality.
It's also a sad story where we get to see the rise and fall of Coriane. She feared the consequences of love and happiness, such as the destruction of her family and friends. We did not see Elara's handicraft in action but we know from Red Queen that she poisoned the present Queen's mind and now we know how. I really liked Tibe in this one, but as Coriane pointed out, he changed with the weight of his crown and like his son Cal, he had dreams of a better world but did not seek means to end it.
Spoiler My heart broke when Coriane had all those miscarriages, like her body was turned against her and the fear that Elara had something to do with it, which I think she did and that she knew Coriane was trying to take her down and dodged that bullet somehow. When she starts dreaming about Cal becoming a soldier and how she would not ever want this for her son it saddened me further, because he did become a soldier, a really good one at that. I kept wondering if it was because Elara influenced Tibe?

And how did Elara become queen? Did she manipulate the King as well?

So many unnecessary drama. Well, let's pretend I care.

"Uncle Robert, this is Coriane of House Jacos, daughter of Lord Harrus, Governor of Aderonack. And Coriane, this is Prince Robert of House Iral, Sworn Consort of His Royal Majesty, King Tiberias the Fifth."

Queen Song is a short novella detailing Coriane's life. It begins prior to her introduction to the Prince and shows a simpler life. Her elder cousin Jessamine wants her to be a proper lady and help restore the power/glory of their failing house. Coriane Jacos just wants to tinker and build things. It was nice to see that similarity to her future son, even though they never really knew one another.

You also get a taste of a second (future) queen in the young Elara, Maven's mother. She is just as pleasant as a young adult as she is in the series, which is to say she's a terror. Elara is manipulative and her power is incredibly strong.
Spoiler We even find out that it was, in fact, Elara that drove Coriane to end her life. Coriane even suspected that Elara was in her mind, but was unable to prove it. She thought she was able to sing well enough to find out if it was true, but Elara was able to resist her. The Queen even got help from someone who could suppress powers, to no avail. Elara drove her mad.

Not a bad novella, really, and it explained more about Coriane which was really cool. I liked it and the confirmation it gave (or didn't give!) to the rumors concerning Elara and her. Interesting read. I would recommend it. 4.5 out of 5 stars, for sure.

Wow that was intense.
I'm trying to connect these characters tho and forgetting

I don't really understand how someone can be so weak and then so strong and then so weak again.

that ending tho was insane.

Oh my gosh I loved this and the unique writing style. The way it was paced and unraveled what flawless right up to the INCREDIBLE ending that had me BEGGING for MORE! When I say I am SO mad that I put off reading The Red Queen series for so long, I MEAN IT! Queen song is so incredibly written and singularly unique writing style. I ignored life from start to finish because I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t wait for the next page! I keep rereading it between reading all the other books, dipping back because I can’t let Queen Song Go! The ending? What a hell of a way to write it that’s all I’ll say because y’all know I’m a spoiler free lady. So, if you’re like me and slept on starting this series BUMP THIS BABY UP YOUR TBR! Trust me you’ll thank me later! Anyhoo gtg reading at 3 am because this series owns my brain lmao!

How a book gets to be 0.1 in a series is a mystery to me but anyway, that is what this one is called and is really just a way to milk more from the series, it is reasonable but nothing to get too excited about.

This is the story of Cal's mother and how she became queen. It was just okay. It did give a few insights into what happened to her and how she was murdered.
