Queen Song

Victoria Aveyard

3.69 AVERAGE

After finishing the Red Queen, I noticed that there were two more novellas that go alongside with the story. Queen of song gives you a inside story of Coriane's life (Prince Cal's mother) before she became Queen.

Coriane character seems very different to what I imagine her to be a little bit more stronger. It was refreshing to see her in a more vulnerable stage and showing her insecurities thorough her diary. I completely love how her relationship with Prince Tiberias developed.

I hated Elara in Red, still hate her even more on Queen Song.

Overall it was very quick and enjoyable book. I really wished the book had more details about how she passed away, since it still such a mystery.

Would've liked to see more of Tibe's thoughts.

This was a very interesting look into the events leading to Queen Coriane’s death. It also shows the cruelty Elara is capable of. I think this story offers some good background information.

i loved being able to learn coriane’s story, even though it absolutely ripped out my heart and shattered it into a million pieces. she deserved so much better. her love for cal really was so evident. fuck you elara you can choke and die.

i also loved the fact that the king had a male consort. i love the gay.

2.5 stars.

medium-paced

Perfectly fine, but unnecessary.

This is a glimpse into the life of the mother of Cal and how he came to be born. It gives some nice details and tells a fascinating, if slightly disturbing story about the powers of the Silvers. It was way too short (I need lots more background on all these characters!) but was worth the read. This new trend of releasing background details via novella is interesting, but I'd rather have the complete series in hand!

I might have rated this higher if I had read it closer to when I read Red Queen or if I had waited until the end of the series (like I usually do), since I'd have a better understanding of more of the characters, but still interesting.

That was really freaking sad. My heart hurts. It was a little short for me. I wish Aveyard had gone into a bit more detail instead of skimming over so much but damn, it still hit me hard.

Queen Song:
"There is nothing so terrible as a story untold." Not just writing motivation, but a quote that explains the reason for this story. The lack of world building could make comprehending this difficult for anyone who hasn't read Red Queen. It's a good story, an interesting one. Nice romance. In fact, if the rest of the series weren't aimed at the futuristic-urban-fantasy genre, this could probably be a much longer book, a romance that's a stone's throw from Cinderella.
