I read this book as a part of my own "read harder" challenge, because it is outside of my usual interest. This is a romance, of the chick-lit variety (not a bodice-ripper,) that I chose after hearing it being discussed on a Get Booked podcast. I wavered on rating this a 2 or a 3. I went with 3, as I didn't hate it.
I almost put it down (for good) as I finished the first chapter. Despite the title being in regards to bettingI was somewhat disgusted at the bets being made in the bar at the start. But, I figured, I needed to give it some time, or else I wouldn't really be reading harder.
It did get better, and overall, the characters acted honorably despite the bet (except for that one jerk,) but in general, each character had their "thing" and came across as pretty one dimensional.
When posted on Facebook that I was reading a romance but not quite liking it, ma friend suggested Jemima J by Jane Green as a good romance. Since that book also has weight issues as a central theme, I'm going to give it a try as a contrast (I hope it's a contrast.)

I understand now why this book is considered a classic romcom. It was funny without being over the top while still having enough heart to make me swoon.

A funny, light, chic flick book. An interesting love story how people meet during a gamble. This story involves crazy exes, a shoe fettish, doughnuts, crazy family members, chicken marcella, weight problems, one scary cat. I Was surprised many of the scenes were funny! Most of the chapters talk about and revolve around food so prepare to get hungry! Though i felt some scenes dragged on, but In the end it was cute, sweet and referenced many fairytale aspects brought into today's world.
