This book was everything, this might be first re read. It is recommended to listen to the audiobook, that’s how I will be reading this book the second time around. I can’t believe how good Kennedy Ryan’s pen game is. I also can’t wait for the second book in this series being released in 2026.

What a beautiful story!!! Neevah Saint is finally getting her turn to star on Broadway after months as an understudy. She doesn’t expect famous film director Canon Holt to be in the audience. The minute he sees her on stage, he knows she is the perfect actress for his new film, a biopic about the life of a Black jazz singer most people have never heard of.
This book had everything! The attraction between Neevah and Canon was immediate but forbidden, so there was so much tension and pining. Neevah has lupus, and it really allowed Canon to show the tender, caring parts of himself that he doesn’t show to anyone. It was a beautiful story of how chronic illness impacts all aspects of life and how love keeps going no matter what (in sickness and in health!).
Reel is long for a romance (480 pages), and it slowed a little in the middle, but I didn’t mind the length. I loved the way jazz singer Dessi’s life story was sprinkled in through chapters of the movie script. I wish we had gotten even more because her story was so interesting and powerful. I highly recommend this book!

Kennedy Ryan made another masterpiece of Black love. I love how she wrote a love story of an actor and director while simultaneously sharing a second story line of the movie they are making together. Pure genius and a beautiful book!
