I read this book several times to my children. This is a delicious story of a precocious, intelligent child that is terrorized by her dumb parents and brutal school Director, but thanks to her schoolteacher (kind of a fairy) she overcomes everything. The film was an all time favorite when my children were little (and even afterwards).
