I’ve decided that marriage of connivence is one of my favourite tropes, it always has me hooked! This was a slow burn but I loved it! This book was so hard to put down because I couldn’t stop swooning over Jack!
Jack Hawthorne is everything and Rose was hilarious!! The way they leaned on each other from pretty much the beginning was so sweet and I loved that Jack tried to keep his distance but he couldn’t because he was a massive simp

Wasn’t my favourite of hers but it’s still good

Another new author that I will definitely be reading more from...

As I’ve discovered earlier this year, I’m a sucker for a ‘marriage of convenience’ book, but this was that with a little extra-ish and I truly enjoyed it!

The only reason I didn’t go with 4 stars here was because I felt like a chapter or two could’ve been kept out- as it added pages, but not more substance.

Yet even with the extra fluff, this was a really good romance story. And one I recommend others read. I can’t wait to check out more from this author.

Okay, so here's the thing: I loved this story; it was great. It was slow-burn but done in the right way so that you weren't bored - it might be too long for some people, but I thought it was actually paced pretty well. The dual-pov was lovely - I love when I get to see inside both character's brains. There was a secret woven through the book that you know Jack has but you're trying to figure out what it is - then a final reveal which you can vaguely guess before then (I think that was intentional), but nonetheless was a little bit of a shock to read. It was a grumpy-sunshine romance all the way, and it was done so well. You wait so long to see him smile, but when you do, it's glorious. She never loses her bubbly-ness and the contrast between them makes the book that much more fun to read. And the shift you start to see in Jack - the thinks he starts doing for Rose and because of Rose - is wonderful to see. It's character development galore.

BUT. I had to knock it down a couple stars because of the content - and this is just a preference thing, but still... there was WAY too much spice in this. I tried to skip through some of the scenes, but they went on for large chunks of the chapter, so that wasn't super easy to do. I don't usually complain about this, but this was over the top, and it felt filthy, not romantic. Unfortunately, this is what I remember most about reading this book, which is sad because there were so many good parts! Because it so heavily tainted my view on the book, I knocked my rating down two stars.

So, if you're not like me and don't mind the over-the-top content, then you'll probably love this book, because it was really good apart from that.

Whoa! Talk about being impressed. My first Ella Maise book and I couldn't get enough!

A marriage of convenience romance that spoke to my slow burn loving heart! I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is probably one of the best slow burn romances I've ever read. I'm a huge MZ fan btw so that's saying a whole lot.

Jack Hawthorne was the sexiest, broodiest eye candy, with a stony face that refused to crack a smile. He was a very serious, no non-sense type of guy with the ability to hide all his emotions. Just like Rose, I FELL HARD! SO HARD for this man! We get to see this busness arrangement of a marriage transform into love and bit by bit we start to see changes in Jack as his walls come down. We get glimpses of tenderness and hints of a smile and each one reached into my heart and squeezed it so tight! He wasn't the best at expresssing his feelings but by his actions, his love for Rose was so obvious. I think what I loved about this man is that he had the most romantic gestures and he was completely clueless that he was actually being romantic. He merely did what he did to make Rose happy.

There are secrets and plot surprises throughout this book that keep the story really intriguing. It's basically around 500 pages but I just never wanted it to end! I seriously LOVE this couple so much! Their chemistry and banter (albeit a little one sided as Jack is a bit of the silent type) was addictive! It was a love that was unexpected for them both which made it all the sweeter. Their growing love for each other had me swooning over and over!
"My husband was perfect. With all his arrogance and prickliness... He wasn't what I wanted for myself but he was perfect and already mine, truly mine."

There is simmering heat and sexual tension throughout the whole book but of course it's a slow burn so the sexy scenes are in the last third of the book. And wow! So worth the wait. I loved my dirty talking Jack so much. This is a couple that I would buy Book 2, 3 and 4 to continue reading more of their story. So much passion, intimacy and honest raw emotions flowed from these pages. I felt EVERYTHING! I just finished this and I already miss them so much. Make sure to grab this one. I can't recommend enough!

Follow me for your next comfort read!

I actually rlly rlly enjoyed reading this, it was a slow burn, forced proximity/fake dating kinda story which are all part of my fav tropes

this had lots of cute parts and it was honestly more angsty than I anticipated, but I still loved it nonetheless

my only thing is I didn't get the real issue at hand??? idk like I didn't understand why Jack paid Joshua and then like why he couldn't have just told Rose that her ex was a jerk lol and to get a restraining order

other than that I rlly liked this, it was a fun read

okay i’m gonna be honest i started reading this book but i had to drop it. i don’t know what it was specifically but the book was just boring. might have to give it another try. idk.

UPDATE REVIEW: finished it two days ago, and honestly a lot of was said in this book but at the same time nothing was said.

I love the other Ella Maise books I’ve read and this one is no different, especially knowing my favorite tropes are grumpy/sunshine and fake dating/marriage or convenience. I really loved that after living her life not having much for a family unit, Rose found family and people who care about her with Jack, Raymond, the doorman, and her employees. I don’t love the way it was written that Jack saw her from across the room and then proceeded to keep tabs on her for a year. It gave me a slight little ick, but honestly not enough to ruin any part of the story.
As soon as Rose started having a runny nose with her headaches and dizziness, I assumed she had a leak, but I think it was well done and supplemented the story with Jack caring for her without her losing the strength and perseverance we knew she possessed. I loved Jack’s devotion to her, and I’m a real sucker for a grumpy MMC.
Overall, another great book by Ella Maise.
