do you think his name was jack

1,5/5

I liked the first half of the book, it the latter part needed a good edit to cut down on the pages as it was a bit lengthy. Jack seemed like a different person in the latter stages and the "reveal" wasn't great.

But I'm happy to have discovered this author and I've already purchased a few of her other books! And I know exactly who I'm giving this book to for their reading pleasure!

3.6 stars.

When a strange good looking man asks you to marry him in order to help you keep your store, you have to accept. That is exactly what happens in this book. But a fake marriage brings real feelings and a lovely romance.
I truly enjoyed the plot which include some very excited twists, and that's why I couldn't leave it until I finished it.

I like the couple but there's something I don't like about the book. The writing, its length... There's nothing interesting happening here. I only kept reading because I wanted see the ending honestly.

marriage for one is a marriage of convenience/marriage with benefits romance. the “fake dating” scenes were exquisite, especially when they were spending quality time together at home, watching movies or playing scrabble... i also really enjoyed the work dinner scene where he orders a special meal for the both of them so she does not feel awkward to not be eating the same thing as everyone else around the table!! that was so thoughtful.

"Ah, aren't you gonna…"
He met my eyes. "Am I gonna… what?"
I was an idiot. "Your sleeves… you always roll them up."
I was a gigantic idiot, but… it was always one of the highlights of my day, so why should I have to suffer just because he forgot about it? It was my daily forearm porn, and I had started to look forward to it.

it's also a grumpy x sunshine romance between a regular woman and a cold rich guy. rose’s friendship with jack’s driver was really nice.

"Your heart always has a home with me, Rose. No matter what, don’t forget that."

the slow burn was great and the development of their feelings felt real, however this book is mostly no plot, just vibes. the narration was bad. there was too much description and inner-thoughts to the point where it felt like i was reading the characters’ diaries.

After all, I was Rose, and he was Jack. We were doomed from the very beginning with those names. You know… the Titanic and all that.

the biggest issue rose and jack had (beside their names lol) is that they need to learn to communicate better. 75% of their problems would have been fixed quickly, or could have been avoided altogether! as a result it took me forever to warm up to these characters.

my biggest issue was the whole subplot about rose’s health issues. i wanted to read a cute romance, i don't want to know about the cerebral liquid leaking from her nose!!! i wanted to gag anytime this was mentioned, i had to skim through these parts.

That's how the universe works: it gives you the one thing you said you'd never want.

i enjoyed reading about rose's coffee shop because i feel like every girl's dream was to own a coffee shop that's also a book and a flower shop. it was interesting to see how she was planning things, the recipes she wanted to try, and how she would try to improve her business.
rose is a business woman, however, i think she needs to learn to separate her love life from her work life because working with this lady would be a nightmare!! imagine having your boss’ husband stand outside your workplace for hours??? hell nah that would make me so uncomfortable...

rose forgave jack to easily for manipulating her. just because he said he was doing it for her own good should not be enough to forgive this man. plus, i hate how people seem to think wow how romantic when the love interest stays outside the fmc's house or workplace until she gives in and agrees to hear them out. no, sir, give me space and perhaps i'll call you to talk. in the mean time, stay out of my sight.

jack is a grumpy and cold billionaire who turns out to have been pining after rose for a while until he finds a way to have her in his life. i love all of the scenes where he would come to her coffee shop to help her paint, move things around, and buying her flowers every week is super nice.
nevertheless, i did not like the possessive, controlling and manipulative side of him. he paid people to get out of rose’s life, forbids her from doing stuff, gets jealous of any man who breathes the same air as rose and he stalks her until she agrees to talk to him? nah that's really my biggest issue with this man, in the end i did not even want rose to be near jack anymore.

This is so beautifully written. It’s so easy to read. Coherent. Natural growth. With sense. Lots of emotions. Slow paced, but makes sense after all. I loved it. Kinda difficult with the focus on the medical issues, but other than that - a nice, cute romantic book.

Love the sarcasm and banter between the main characters
