I was enjoying it for the most part up until the point where I found out
he essentially forced her into the marriage when he had ulterior motives for wanting to marry her and he literally paid her fiancé to break up with her. I tried but i just couldn't ignore how icky that made me feel. While I can see how some would find it romantic, it came across as creepy to me.

I wanted to like this book so bad. But I just couldn’t. It took me almost a month to get through it, and at one point I had to switch to audiobook just to get myself to read it because I wasn’t making time to read my physical copy. I just felt like the plot started strong but then just kinda got a little ridiculous, in my opinion. Also, there was NO GROVELING.

This one just wasn’t for me. That is all.
funny lighthearted relaxing medium-paced

A bit shit

I had high hopes for this one but it was very disappointing. Absolutely lovely declarations of love but MMC was such a douche. He didn’t even work for her forgiveness. Oh well.

“I want to be that person to you, Rose. I want to be the person you lean on. You and I, we’re the same. We have no one but each other. You’ll lean on me and I’ll do the same. We’ll learn how. We’re in this together.”

Allow me to preface this review by saying I read this book in the middle of a severe book slump and was looking for something to get me out of it. That being said, let's get into it:

When Jack Hawthorne offers his hand in marriage to Rose, an aspiring coffee shop owner going through an awful break-up in exchange for a deal that would make her life, she agrees.

Jack isn't the kind of hero I'm used to–he is grumpy, sullen, quiet lawyer who doesn't really like anyone; though he doesn't say much, he loves with his actions–he cares about Rose more than words can express and does his best to show her, even if he'll never admit it. Rose is cute–but as a female protagonist, I just didn't connect with her as much.

Jack and Rose are a really sweet couple–but in my opinion, I just didn't feel the love rolling off the pages. A couple parts of the book felt repetitive and slow, like they weren't really adding to the story, though I can appreciate that the proximity and the slow character development does need the kind of time.

The ending felt a little rushed. I was taken aback at how easily Rose forgave Jack and let the whole conflict of the book slide. It seemed like far too quick of a resolution and one that didn't involve a lot of proper communication between the couple.

Still, the story was a feel-good one and if you're looking for those warming domestic scenes and a sweet male character, this book delivers on that.

This book….. Okay I’m gonna start by saying, there are no spoilers in my review, but reviews won’t help you decide if you love it or not. A lot of the reviews I read hated this book, and yet I loved it. Read for yourself and judge, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

The main character Rose was annoying at times, whether it be because she contradicted herself, made decisions seemingly based on a lack of evidence or just blatantly annoyed me with her personality. But that was all by design, and in the end I grew attached to her quirks and felt the character fit the storyline. Her history was deep enough that it didn’t feel rushed but not so drawn out as though I felt it was boring and necessary of skipping through.

Jack, the main male character, is another kettle of fish. He was also very irritating with his hard-to-break-down walls, though I find in most books, that quality seems to benefit the storyline - this novel being no exception. The development of his personality and character throughout remained consistent, even if he did piss me off at times, I can see that was by design. Jack’s past seemed relatively 2 dimensional but that didn’t bother me, as majority of his part in this book needed to be focused on present day.

A lot of the reviews stated that they hated the quick turnaround of the ‘problem’ later on in the book, but I imagine they’d also complain if the turnaround was drawn out or not rectified by the end. At least in this book, the makeup between characters seemed logical, and didn’t seem to be rushed to try and fit it all in.

I personally would’ve loved more angst but that’s because I’m used to reading Wattpad books, hence my 4 stars, but for smut in this book? 10/10 chef’s kiss. Romance and love scenes? 10/10 perfectly balanced.

Would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to expand their reading with another slightly angsty romance novel :)

September - James Arthur

I wasn’t sure about this when I started it. There are so many things that make me uncomfortable … until I realised they were supposed to, and I fell in love.

2 star, 2 spice

another one that has me questioning if I should be taking recs from Tiktok.
I could not tell you one single thing about the MMC apart from the fact he frowns a lot.
The main characters are cardboard, no depth, no growth.
and we are left with unresolved, unanswered questions - what the heck happened with the cousins?
Why did we only get one conversation of their pasts? - talking about their trauma would have given them so much more depth Their meeting was so minimal it did not support the MMCs choices. Why is the FMC afraid of the doctor and claustrophobic?
he was so worried about her safety it was perfectly set up to foreshadow someone attacking her, but nope, shes always safe.
Nothing happens in this. With how much depth we get it should have been under 200 pages.

listen
The banter between the characters were SO good in the first 55% BUT once they were actually together i didnt like it?
