5 stars
I've been anticipating this book since the author announced it.
If Mariana Zapata is the queen of slow burn, Ella Maise has definitely given her a run for her money. This book was so slow burn that it took me 3 weeks to complete it.
I love a good slow burn romance and combine that with one of my favorite tropes, marriage of convenience, it's a recipe for a 5 star read. I loved seeing how their relationship evolved from strangers to them falling for each other.
Also, I didn't expect that twist at the end.

By the last chunk, I felt like it was dragging just a tad, but overall a pretty solid romance.
Good beginning, okay middle, rushed and dramatic ending. I love a fake marriage trope, and was so excited, but ended up being disappointed.
Jack and Rose of the present.
Marriage for one is a marriage of convenience. Rose is about to lose the cafe that she was planning to open because his uncle just passed away and it is stated in his will that the place will be transferred to her husband. The problem is her fiance just dumped her and now she is single.
Jack is a lawyer working in the firm which is handling the will of the uncle. He then proposed to Rose to be his husband for her to push through with her dream of having a cafe of her own and for Jack to have a wife for his image, to have a wife to parade in formal dinners. It is a win-win situation for both of them.
First Impression
Kindle unlimited recommended this book after I read another marriage of convenience. I thank algorithm for that LOL because I have just read an amazing story.
Setting
There is nothing special with the setting because it is a contemporary but what really enamored me is the cafe and baked stuff. The writer was able to describe the cafe in a way that it can be imagined. I literally went to a cafe while reading this. The baked goods made me crave.
Characters
The female protagonist, Rose has sense of humor. Her lines literally made me laugh out loud. She is one of the characters that you want to be friends with in real life. She is also weird but it makes her unique.
The male protagonist, Jack is the serious type and Rose brings the light side of him. He rarely smiles but Rose makes him. He is also a gentleman, I just wish there is someone like him around me LOL.
Writing style
It is a dual POV which is my weakness. The humor was not cheesy which is a plus point.
If you are into marriage for convenience kind of romance, then this is for you. I highly recommend this for the fact that it was a fun read and you will definitely love the characters.

3/5 stars.
I've read most of this one, and it was not at all what I expected it too be. It was really heavy on the emotions, it had heavy subjects in it and I was thinking of this as a fun read. It was also a really, really slow burn with the romance, so around 78% in, I finally had to give up. It was an okay read, but just not for me I guess.

full disclosure: I basically skimmed the last half
pros:
- interesting premise
- the smutty scenes were decent, like a 6/10
- easy to read
cons:
- this was so fucking long and absolutely nothing happened. there was no plot except their relationship, which is fine, but there wasn't much unique or interesting about the relationship so it didn't make much of a plot
- by the time we even got to the smut I was so bored I didn't even care it was happening
- bland characters
- the event that is supposed to be the big twist felt goofy af to me and not realistic at all...like idk I'm not saying romance has to be realistic necessarily but the rest of the story was so rooted in realism I just felt like it should all match up?? also the resolution of the big twist felt way rushed and not at all like character development to me personally
overall:
way too long. way too boring. I wanted to like this but it just didn't hold my interest.
