If you want grumpy/sunshine, slooow freaking burn (like 75% mark slow), angsty, and saucy, read this. It gave (less well done) Archer’s Voice but was still great on its own.
The beginning was slooow for me, and I really could’ve used some artful editing - there was some excessive detail in some places, esp about the coffee shop before opening, and then missing detail in others.
All in all, I loveddd Jack. He is the typical stoic, brooding, quiet, hates everyone but her MMC. And Rose was such a great golden retriever FMC without being over the top and too much.
I loved how they built their relationship from an arranged marriage/marriage of convenience, worked through major hurtles, built some serious tension, and then got through their 3rd act break up/major conflict. While there was some room for improvement, I definitely enjoyed this one!
Tropes:
Arranged Marriage
Found Family
Grumpy/Sunshine
He falls first
TW:
Health anxiety/major plot points around health and illness of a partner/loved one.

This book started off as a “side read,” a mere detour in my main book reading journey. Then I opened the first chapter and found myself unable to stop turning page after page. Chapter after chapter. I was obsessed reading this. I stayed up so late to finish it, which is completely unlike me.
I was hooked.
The romance is the plot, and sunshine/grump and marriage of convenience the glorious tropes. It all worked together so well!
I enjoyed our leads— the optimistic, self-reliant Rose, and the cold, stoic (but you know deep down a softie) Jack. Jack, has a secret you can probably guess pretty early on, but I ate it up. I had the best time watching our leads fake marriage develop into something more, as their partnership gave way to an intense chemistry and romance. I think one of my favorite things was seeing Rose continuously try to pull a smile from Jack, to the point she kept count. Their relationship development was so nice— even as the reader knew there was an impending doom lurking in the shadows of Jack’s secret.
My disappointments are minor. One issue I had was probably the ending— the resolution swept by too quickly, and considering the slow burn nature of the rest of the romance, I would have enjoyed a bit more of a fleshed resolve. It also bothered me how miscommunication was a constant issue from start to finish— even during the resolution arc communication was a bit hard to come by. Nevertheless, these were minor bumps in an otherwise smooth road of excellent romancing.

idk if this was an extremely slow book or i just don't fuck with marriage of convince but it took me waaay to long to finish this. i enjoyed some parts but this is straight wattpad writing like i'm pretty sure seventh grade me read the exact same thing with calum hood as the mmc.

Would have given it 5 stars if not for the epilogue. The final chapter and the epilogue are exactly the same in my opinion. Would have preferred a time jump.

I think this book surpassed my expecations. I knew going into it, it would be a slowburn and a grumpy sunshine trope (2 of my favorite things in books) but it was even better than I though it was going to be.
The buildup was so believeable, and when you find out why Jack decided to really marry Rose, it gave me such butterflies!
So obsessed, definite 5 star for me, will reread again!!
