probably the longest time i spent reading a marriage of convenience book, which is not great since it's on my top 5 fav tropes.

the long chapters were not actually the main problem to me since i actually don't mind them. i really enjoyed the first half too bec yes i am a sucker for grumpy x sunshine but towards the end maybe 70%ish the book kinda lost me. anyways the bonus chapters were cute tho. i love that jack is a girldad <3

Chapters are loooooong
It was good but was it amazing? Ehh
I feel like it was a nice romance novel, but I’ll likely forget about it.
It wasn’t bad but it just didn’t click for me. I think it was because the way the “grumpiness” of the MMC was written didn’t do it for me(Usually the guy is grumpy but has a soft spot just for the girl, but in this cause I just felt like he was too grumpy bordering on rude)
It looked like she was a bit desperate compared to him and he rejected her advances.
Plus it didn’t make much sense that he offered to marry her just because he wanted to help her but then he says he was interested (but not in love at first sigh). Who the fuck marries a stranger just for help? I would rather him admitting he liked her from the beginning or that we always a bit obsessed with her. And it didn’t make sense that he said he was interested but then he didn’t put the effort right way to seduce her (only after she did) when they got married.

- Jack and Rose
- Fake marriage
- Grumpy MMC
- She married him because a stipulation on her uncles will said that the propriety of the building she wanted to use for her future coffee shop would go to her husband if she married.
- He wanted to marry her to seem like a family man to future clients for his law firm who are old school
- He helped her with the remodeling of the coffee shop and picked her up every day
- She’s simping hard saying how attractive he is (I would like to read that from him too - the cute panic, but it only happened after )
- She’s funny and sarcastic
- He doesn’t talk a lot and when he does he’s brutally honest
- The client and partners dinner that she went to: the only female partner he slept with her a couples of times years ago. I like how he just ignore her like the plague. They were touching each other to try to fool the partners. Samantha was all catty and rose stood up and SCHOOLED HER yeah purrr
- Hahah her obsessed with him rolling up his sleeves and seeing his hands and forearms
- He went to her opening of the coffee shop and brought her fresh roses (ones she wanted for the cafe but didn’t buy because they were expensive) And bought a shit ton of coffee to support her
- She got hurt and he literally ran there to help her And carried her to work and then she slammed the door in his face hahahha and he liked it!
- I lovvvve how rude he is to Samantha
- He is changing, leaving early just to be with her
- He’s so smitten with her now
- Him giving his credit card for her to buy a dress for the next event
- The event was a charity event for foster kids. There she found out her ex fiancé is now with her cousin!
- At the event he kissed her in front of everyone and kissed her good
- Omg rose and Jack with the little girls

reread

DNF @ 72%.

It started out really good. And even tho I read in the reviews that it was a slow burn, it still turned out more slow burn than I could handle. And the heroine got more annoying with every chapter. Only good thing was Jack..

Sometimes I wish I was illiterate

Honestly, I didn't really expect much from this book, but it definitely gave!

One of the things that I love about this book is the different tropes it has: fake marriage/relationship and grumpy/sunshine. I also enjoyed the slow-burn romance going on because it really shows how the relationship of the MCs—Jack, and Rose—developed. This also has a dual POV, so I really loved how I was able to see how the mind of each of them works, especially Jack. I loved how he was the cold, broody type of character but would go soft for Rose. The scene where he really got my heart was when
Spoilerhe held Rose's ankle during the entire time that she's doing an MRI
. As for Rose, her character really lived up to the 'sunshine' that she is because she can be hilarious without even trying. Also, I truly admire her dedication and how she didn't lose it despite everything.

As much as I like to give this a much higher rating, there were a few things I didn't like about how the story went after
SpoilerRose knew what Jack did before he offered the marriage
. Because after that, the story just became dragging and bland, and there was nothing really going on. Then came a few chapters later, everything just went too fast, and the ending felt like it was a bit rushed. And, it would've been nice if
SpoilerJack groveled more instead of them reconciling that fast after some dragging chapters
.

But overall, I did enjoy this, and it sure did help me get out of my reading slump.
