This was a slowwww burn and a longish book, but it generally worked for me. I think because the pacing seemed appropriate.
Love a good marriage of convenience and this was an interesting twist of the "have to get married because of a will/legal document" micro trope. I enjoyed watching Rose and Jack's relationship evolve, especially how they just found themselves drawn to and enjoying each other.... but didn't venture into physical territory early on. They got to learn and discover about each other first... I also liked the way they both wanted to be around each other more, but clearly didn't know how to do the fake marriage thing during the non-performance-or-the-public moments.
It was nice to have the dual POV. Usually it's hard to keep some mystery - like the mystery/secret Jack was holding - with dual POV, but I thought that was done well here. We knew there was something Jack was having internal angst about, but we didn't really get our first glimpse till about 1/3 of the way through when he snaps at his assistant and say hebasically stalked Rose for a year. But then we also didn't get the big reveal till the end.
The medical issue plotline was unexpected, but worked well and really moved the story and relationship along well. Aside from the big secret, I also like how Jack and Rose generally communicated openly and, both forced communication and talking things through more often than just assuming they knew what the other was thinking. I really dislike conflict that stems from the main characters just making assumptions and never trying to check those assumptions by just talking to the person - so I appreciated how often that was not the case here. I did think Rose kept doubting Jack's true feelings for her for a little longer than was believable, but it didn't drag on too long, so I wasn't annoyed. (Some books are this dynamic the whole story and I get so frustrated.)
I also kinda liked how Jack was always sure of himself and his choices... even the ones that were the bad ones, he made his decision and committed to it prepared to reap what he sowed. Some people may not like that there was no grovel here, but the conflict and resolution actually felt true to Jack's character to me.
Definitely a slow burn, but still some explicit spice scenes once you get to em. And a lot of steamy kissing and touching before you get there. Again, the pacing felt balanced and the way things built in their relationship felt satisfying and believable. All in all, a thumbs up from me.

It took forever to finish this book but it wasn’t a book problem but more me having a lot of studying to do, unfortunately. However, the book was good. It was a perfect marriage of convenience book, one of my favorite trope. The chemistry was perfect, the perfect balance of grumpy guy and sunshine girl, also my favorite.

The third act breakup scene was not actually a breakup an he still did not stop going behind her even when she said really hurtful things to him.
If he is not obsessed and whipped for me the way Jack is for Rose, I do not want him.
They’re the only Jack and Rose that matter.
This book is probably what it would be like if ‘trouble in paradise’ was a book. I absolutely love this book and I adore it with my entire heart and soul.
